Although as a small kid i read comics i couldnt say that i was hooked on comics. It wasent untill i came back to comics in my teens that i became hooked.
    Two things got me.
One was the whole Operation: Zero Tolerance storyline in X-men. It was the first time i got to read a whole story arc from the begining.
And the other was the discovery of Alan Moore. Catching up on stuff like Watchmen and V for Vendetta pulled me in and made me realise that comics could be more than just kids stuff.

Larry Hama's GI Joe was my gateway drug, transitioning me from toy/Saturday Morning cartoon obsessions into comic book obsessions. After reading GI Joe for about a year, a friend of the family who was about 6 years older than me gave me his, quote unquote, "X-Men beginners kit."

The kit consisted of a trade of the Dark Phoenix Saga, God Loves Man Kills, and a bunch of Classic X-Men reprints of the first Kitty Pryde stories, the first appearance of Proteus, and Days of Future Past. After that, I was hooked for life.

Hello! I'm not sure how popular I'm going to be over here as primarily a manga fan, but this discussion caught my eye, because I just blogged on this topic a few days ago: here.

Well, I got started as a kid in the late 80s. I had a handful of Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Archie comic books. But the two series that I actually begged my mom to take me to the local comic shop to pick up were "Slimer!" (a kid centric The Real Ghostbusters comic) and the New Kids on the Block comics series. Hey, it was 1989 and I was an 8 year old girl -- what else was I going to read?! :) As a teenager I became more of a sci-fi novel/tv/movie fan and stopped checking out comics.

Years later I got back into reading comics by picking up early issues of Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, and Astonishing X-Men. I've branched out a lot since then but that's what got me started. :)

When I was a kid it was Jim Lee's X-Men. When I got to college it was Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns that pulled me back in. I then became obsessed with Powers and anything written by Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis. I guess it was the overall idea that comics could be dark and real that got me back into them.
