I am a 60-plus widow, recently retired after almost 40 years in the newspaper business. My love of politics was learned, first, from my father, a small-town Justice of the Peace for 18 years, then, my husband, a national award-winning reporter and White House Press Corps member for the Houston Post. I met and married him when he came to South Texas, having bought several small papers. Like most Deep South Texas residents, I am a lifelong Democrat, but that is not etched in stone; I am open to other party candidates if I deem them better. I am a voracious reader, love gardening and embroidering, and am also a big movie buff, since that was my father's business. Love classical and country music. My first love was James Dean, followed by Elvis Presley. I joined Propeller to learn more -- about everything. My life's motto is "A day without learning something new is a wasted day"

News – Most nights when Anthony Klecker, a former marine, finally slept, he found himself back on the battlefields of Iraq. He would awake in a panic, and struggle futilely to return to sleep. Days were scarcely better. Car alarms shattered his nerves. Flashbacks came unexpectedly, at the whiff of certain cleaning chemicals...

Humor – Intoned a man in a suit on television. "The question is whether we can trust a man who says "an" one day, and then suddenly says "a"? Does this show a lack of experience? Do we really know who Obama is, rhetoric-wise?"

Politics – All manner of dodgy election fund-raising initiatives have already been concocted, but one stands out as especially in need of the Federal Election Commission's urgent attention: the announced plan by the Republican Governors Association to raise large amounts of unregulated soft money in the name of Senator John McCain.

Do No Evil – There you have it. After a long exile, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP are back in Iraq. And on the wings of no-bid contracts -- that's right, sweetheart deals like those given Halliburton, KBR and Blackwater. The kind of deals you get only if you have friends in high places. And these war profiteers have friends in very high places.
