Hello folks, First, allow me to thank you all for your kind words, thoughts, prayers, and concerns. I am having surgery on September 19 to remove my thyroid and lymph nodes. The prognosis looks very good for a complete recovery. I am optimistic and am seeking the most aggressive treatment possible for my thyroid cancer. Again, thank you all for your continued support. As always, happy reading, David

David, I know how you feel. My wife had her thyroid removed and just had her dose of radioactive iodine 2 days ago. She is doing well. It is definitely life changing, but the treatments and operation have a high success rate. I hope that all goes well for you.

Best of luck with that ... no wait. Luck shouldn't have that much to do with it. Better still, work hard to make SURE you have the best doctors available to you. Then luck won't enter into it. I also know how it feels to have a perspective altering event in your life. In my case, not me, but my wife. Now, whenever I think about doing this, or that, I stop to consider whether I would later regret not spending the time with her. Just a little breast cancer, and treatment is good, prognosis good - but it DOES alter your perception of how to best arrange your time every day. I would also tell you to follow her procedure: Don't mope around whining about "Why me?" - take charge of yourself and your treatment and ask "What's to be done next, and how soon can we do it." Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

David you always seem to have a positive attitude towards most things and that is one of the best things to have when one is told they have cancer, like the other members here I wish you the best and if you have a really bad day and need an moment to talk, remember we are here.

If there is anything that I can add to all the support you deserve, it comes from my own experience. After a serious heart attack that compromised my "prognosis" and since developing other chronic conditions, I have been told that, in essence, I am living on borrowed time.
Since accepting this concept, I have been happier and stronger mentally than ever. I live the best I can today. To truly live one day at a time, may sound easy or trite; but it is the best way to truly live.
I wish you many good days ahead and victory over your cancer; but most of all, I wish you the best life has for you today. Isn't that what we all have anyway? Today?

As being in a family that has been touched by this disease, I can truly relate to your situation, keep your chin up! I have enjoyed reading your most insightful comments, and look forward to many more on many issues!

Sorry to hear about your thyroid cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed myself about three years ago with what was originally thought to be multiple myeloma. But it turned out to be only Waldenstrom's, which is not nearly as agressive. A good break for me; hope that you get some of those as well.

Keep positive and hang in there.

These's a nice newsletter called Cancer Compass that I get e mailed to me perodically--very good for information and support. I can recommend it.

Say hey, Dave! When life throws me a curve, I always remember that we are never really quite finished evolving. Take me, for instance. I lived my life as a Christian Conservative in tiny little Ocala Florida ... and I survived. It took every bit of strength to leap that hurdle. And now, boy, look at me now! I've been learning to spell. I got a make-over. And, for the first time in my life, I really understand what's going on in American Politics and Media.

This is just one more hurdle, my friend.

Thank you for the compliment about the group. I wanted to open up a forum for people to share their stories about gay and lesbian related issues. I am proud to run a spam free, porn free forum.

    Hi David
Sorry to hear about your cancer , I know in the past we have not always seen eye to eye on the gay issue , but you are still a human being , a brother , who I wish no harm to , I will say a prayer , I don't know if you believe in such things , or even if you think they help , but never the less , I will still pray that you come through this , blessing to you , go in peace .
