Military brat (14th generation American) with unassuaged wanderlust. By age 11, schools in four states and three foreign countries (in 3 languages). Left home at 17. Degree from top-five US university. After two years service to my country, PhD and post-docs in top-twenty international universities. Since then, professional scientist/consultant, including with three Nobel Prize winners, in four states and five foreign countries. Spent time in another 30 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Mideast and Oceania (ahora busco algo interesante en America Latina!), partly in projects aiding poorer countries. Fully trilingual in three of the five langauges I have learned. Value highly tolerance, respect towards others and adore learning from human diversity. Detest "religious" fanaticism and "superpatriotism" as two of the worst historical and current malignancies of mankind.

Hyperbola,
Just wanted to drop you a note and say thanks for the great comments you have posted lately. Clearly you see the error in the turn this country has taken. Far too few understand this. Palin is but a symbol of a very, very sick society.
Your ability to debate the other side with facts is what impresses me the most. They have no facts behind their supposed "arguments". They see intellectualism as an evil. But of course they have been taught this by the highbrow likes of Limbaugh. They are taking this country into an abyss from which it will not escape. As you know, all great societies have eventually collapsed on their own hubris and we are apparently doomed to the same fate.
I am the son of two college professors who instilled in me the values of tolerance, open mindedness, and the making of my own decisions. Particularly the latter caused me to immerse myself in history. I have also traveled extensively, mainly in Europe. Yet the most formative of my travels involved working in low income areas of the US. I learned a great deal about poverty and its roots. A very ugly cycle.
