"Or that being gay is a mental illness, I've been told that a lot and called a degenerate. "

Jake, please accept my apologies. Somehow it was the way I misread the above comment that prompted my response (I called you a "willful" idiot. I read this as your believing that being gay was a mental illness. Clearly that is not your view.

Too much multi-tasking apparently. I read your response and realized I was in error after I re-read your post. Again my apologies.

I have nothing to say about the matter. My opinion is as good as the next person's but may not contradict God's statements in the Bible about it.

The Apostle Peter said in his epistle: 1 Peter 5:5-8 "Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
    “ God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”[
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." To humble one's self is to agree with another about matters. To accept the opinion of another which in this case is God's Word. In this case the "Mighty Hand of God" is His Word because He does nothing except by speaking it into being. So Pride disagrees with God. Humility submits to God and agrees with God. He gives Grace (saving Grace) to those who will agree with Him. But He resists the proud. He holds them off. That is what I am saying.

God has made it simple. First one repents of going one's own way contrary to and independent of God and then Believes on the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation is given. God through the Apostle Paul who is quoting OT Prophets says "There is none that does right, none that seeks after God, they have all become corrupt and gone back from worship of God. They have refused to honor Him as God and will not be thankful to Him for even the breath they take each day." Romans chapter one. He said it not I.

Quote: "God will forgive you for all of your sins if you yourself are regretful, that's a basic tenet of Christianity yes?"

No. Even Jesus preached "repent". Repent is to change one's mind. In this case you would have to change your mind about what God MUST accept in order for you to be saved. You would have to change your mind about the condition of your own heart to agree with His declared assessment of it. Christians who are disciples of Jesus who commit sins after making Him Lord are instructed to Confess their sins and He will forgive their sins (I John 1:9) But that is much more than regret. It is a acknowledging one has been wrong and a turning away from that behavior.

As for wars and conflicts between people they have always occurred and will continue until Jesus comes back and stops them when He rules the earth. Still even then there will be conflict because men without God are perverse by nature. It is not my responsibility to help people "just get along" by saying all paths lead to the same place. As a Disciple of Jesus Christ I am required to acknowledge the Truth about Him. He said He was the Only Way to the Father. His resurrection and ascension according to the Apostle Peter (as the Catholic church claims: the first Pope) said those two things testify that He is the only way to the Father and has established the New Covenant prophesied by the Prophets two of which I cited for you in another post.

God says men need more than to turn over a new leaf or to merely do good. They need a radical change of nature. He gives that transformed nature if they confess Jesus as Lord and believe on Him. They must believe He has ascended to the throne of God and now has ALL authority in heaven and on earth: ruling from there over His church.

Doing good works is not sufficient for you or me. We each must have our nature changed by a Divine supernatural action. That is what is called the new birth. It occurred to me when I was nine years old. I pray you will see the light and turn to Jesus so you too may be regenerated.

    Merry Christmas.
