John Grey has been playing newspapers since 1976, when he annoyed his teachers by getting a job with the Maryborough Chronicle instead of going to uni like a good boy.

He has worked on various publications, including six months as a subeditor on the Brisbane Telegraph before that paper folded (it wasn't his fault, he swears) and as managing editor of The Catholic Leader. Somewhere along the line, he eventually got around to tertiary education, but only to train as an actor.

It was in the 1980s at the West Australian in Perth that he first got to play with newspapers and computers at the same time. This gave him an inkling of the future and eventually led, years later, to the opportunity to build and edit a newspaper website for The Courier-Mail.

As much as he loves the work, he confesses he would rather spend his time with his lovely wife and four grown children.
