I am a civil libertarian-leaning atheist. Although I cherish tradition and think cultural norms are important, I see culture being used by the clever and powerful to brainwash and control the masses. I think ancient religious material is the product of humans rather than any supernatural power. In fact, I have found no evidence for anything supernatural. I think we can live more satisfying and ethical lives by aligning our thoughts and actions with natural law. I strongly condone questioning belief itself, for those with the mental capacity to do so. I also think most kinds of prohibition don't work and shouldn't be legislated--from abortion, to gun ownership, to drugs, to limitations on stem cell research. I think we have created such a morass of laws that people cannot help but trip over them and land in jail (or worse). I am suspicious of both socialism and social conservatism. My current major interests are metaphor and group psychodynamics.
