Science – The Interior Department declared the polar bear a threatened species Wednesday because of the loss of Arctic sea ice but also cautioned the decision should not be viewed as a path to address global warming.

Money – Runaway food prices have compelled some lawmakers to question the policies adopted to develop the biofuel industry. In order to cut dependence on oil imports Congress has granted the biofuel industry a 51 cents per gallon tax credit and passed a law mandating a five fold increase in output over the next 15 years.

Money – Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida has been fighting to cut 10 cents from the state's gasoline tax for two weeks in July.
