Can Obama end our cancerous big oil dictated foreign policy?

Politics – Abraham Lincoln freed African Americans from slavery--will our first African American president free all of us from an oil industry that robs us not only of our wealth at the gas pumps, but our tax dollars to fight wars to seize oil reserves, and the lives of idealistic young soldiers who fight in those wars?

The US gas garrison

Politics – The Carter Doctrine, established 28 years ago, put the US military in service of assuring the nation's regular supplies of imported oil. This has near-bankrupted the US and corrupted the military, yet left the US insecure in energy sources and globally loathed. The time has come to demote petroleum and stand down the troops.

Iraqis want to treat big oil like hired help not colonial masters

News – The Iraqi oil ministry says big oil companies are dragging their feet about finalizing short term contracts because they want part of the profits of the oil, not just service contracts. It's a little like your gardener demanding you put his name on the deed to your house in exchange for mowing your lawn.

Letter to Bill Moyer's on Iraq, Oil, & Democrats

Politics – Bill Moyers recent excellent commentary on the oil motive for the Iraq War led me to ask him to do a follow up story: why are Democrats silent about the role big oil played in lobbying for the Iraq War, their plans to profit from it, and most of all, how they have stuck us with the bill and given us NOTHING in return.

ATTACK heart of failed GOP economic faith

News – Deregulation, privatization, low taxes on the wealthy and corporations, anti-unions (both domestic and foreign)--which of these has been a success for average Americans?

Drudge Report blamed Clinton for high oil prices in 2000 NOT Bush now

Politics – Drudge, the first stop of the right wing media, blamed Clinton for rising oil prices back when it was still well under $20 a barrel. Now that Bush is president and oil is four to five times more expensive, it's, ahem, "market forces." It's not hypocrisy, it's showing that Drudge's first loyalty is to the GOP not the truth or the America

Senators: no Iraq oil contracts until OIL THEFT LAW passes

News – Sen. Kerry & Schumer want the Bush admin to stop Iraqi oil contracts until a Hydrocarbon Law is in place that gives 88% of Iraq's oil income to big oil and leaves the piddling remainder for Iraqis to fight over like scraps a master tosses his dog. Do Dems really need to tell Bush how to commit economic war crimes? He seems to already know.

Congress finds Big Oil holding back fields that could DOUBLE US output

News – Rush Limbaugh and other righties have blamed high oil prices on limits on off-shore drilling and in ANWR, but Congress has found that big oil ISN'T drilling on leases they hold now that could DOUBLE US output and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) today introduced a bill that tells them to "use it or lose it."

TELL PELOSI: Bush impeachment polls as high as Nixon when he resigned

Politics – With a near complete media blackout of the issue, the very first poll showed more support for impeaching Bush than there was for impeaching Clinton after eight years of 24/7 scandal-mongering, and only slightly less than there was for impeaching Nixon, THE DAY BEFORE HE RESIGNED.

Why Bush impeachment doesn't make front page

Politics – Yesterday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against George W. Bush, including torture and other war crimes, corruption, and lying to the public & Congress to take us to war. Yet it didn't make the front page of major newspapers today and the public support for impeachment doesn't make it any day. Here's why.

CA legislators support equal pay for equal work--for THEMSELVES NOT EDUCATORS

News – For forty years, the California legislature has tolerated two unequal classes of community college instructors who teach same classes, one getting health insurance and job security and the other getting neither and as little as 25% as much pay per class. But when the same system was going to be forced on lawmakers, they cried foul.

American Conservative's positive review of new Israel peace lobby

Politics – Upon leaving office in 2004, Democratic Sen. Ernest Hollings said what many of his colleagues surely felt: "You can't have an Israeli policy other than what AIPAC gives you around here." Jeremy Ben-Ami, the executive director of a new lobbying group, J Street, plans to change that.
