July 5, 2006, 5:53 p.m.The University of Missouri absolutely should keep the money, as I understand it there were no conditions that would allow it to be recalled. Therefore, it is theirs.
That being said, what is to be done with it? Compare at the present three names in the news, Ken Lay, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Only one of these has a Ph D, Bill Gates did not even go to college, not sure about Buffet. But, the point is that an education is not necessary for success, but a superior education in the hands of an arrogant person with questionable ethics can be very dangerous.
Moreover, the recent charitable steps by Gates and Buffett contrast greatly with the debacle left by Ken Lay.
I suggest that the University of Missouri could put the money to good use in a program to find out if the advanced eudcation system played a role in Lay's actions, and to emphasize the importance of humility and ethics in a person's advanced education.
Note - I do hold a Ph D in another field.

July 6, 2006, 12:57 a.m.The University of Missouri bears no responsibility for what this man has done. I am sure an ethics was made available to this greedy man. KEEP THE MONEY! Ken Lay is the thief!
The advanced education Department needs to keep doing what they have been doing; however another university needs to teach a counter-measure to prevent these types of things from happening again.
