June 20, 2006, 8:37 p.m.Pardon my lack of empathy, I'm sorry, I dont see anywhere that MySpace guarantees the legitimacy of the users. I observe 'SAFETY TIPS' which is hyperlinked at the bottom of EVERY myspace page as the footer content.
I believe legally, MySpace is all clear. Although I do foresee that they will make the TOS a little more clear for younger kids to understand, perhaps multiple checkboxes. AIMPages has a very simple and straight-forward TOS by comparison.

June 20, 2006, 11:44 p.m.I have to agree with you, I am sorry that it happened but where were her parents ? Do they not watch and monitor what she does or who she talks with on her PC. They expect others to watch over their kid and and take no responsiblity when something horrible like this does happen. She should sue her parents for neglect.

Aug. 15, 2006, 9:11 p.m.This is MySpace.com's fault...HOW??!! I'm sorry this terrible thing happend but this is no way myspace's fault, they didn't TELL her, nor force her, to go meet with a bunch of losers.

Aug. 21, 2006, 1:31 p.m.I agree with you all...14 years old or not, Myspace is not the cause of this unfortunate event and shouldnt be held liable for anything. At 14, the profile is marked private, so she accepted them to be able to view her profile, plus she willingly met up with them & went to drink with them....they did something foolish, but so did she!

Sept. 5, 2006, 2:39 p.m.There have been rumors that myspace is going to be discontinued...don't know if that's true or not.
The pattern I dont want to see is when something goes wrong with children, others are accountable, that could not have known before hand. I don't think schools are responsible or should be sued when their students shoot the place up. I dont think smalll businesses should suffer income loss because teens loiter around the entrance and intmidate would-be customers. I dont think websites are responsible for the kind of the people that use them or the acts of those individuals.
You can't see everything your child does. You can't be everywhere they are. You can't chose their friends or clothes, or career coals or beliefs. If you did they would never mature into responsible adults who can stand on their own.
