The key element is the role that the governments of Muslim nations choose to play. If they cooperate with the West, the damage that al-Qaeda can do will necessarily be limited.
The Bush administration policy of seeking cooperation from such undemocratic nations as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Indonesia may yet turn out to have been the best course.
We will see. Right now, this "call to arms" seems not so important.

July 27, 2006, 10:11 a.m.After reading the article, we are in a 3rd world war! I hate to say it, but to all libs and fence sitters, we CAN NOT talk these people to death and change them. These people have no remorse for humanity.
My only concern is N. Korea and China. They better wake-up, because the jihad WILL distroy them, also!

Spain, who pulled out from ? Iraq after the bombings must be wondering.. "what the heck did we do this time".
And is this war going to include all of Europe? And what about Africa? They are not concerned with converting the "heathens" there? Or are they worried that Malaria that kept them from progressing the first time around, will do the same again?
As cruel as it seems, there should be a ban on people who can not integrate with society from entering advanced countries (in terms of society). If their societies are so rotten, instead of seeking a better life elsewhere, they need to work on reforming their own societies..

All we need is a few ( million ) paving trucks, put some bulldozers in front to smooth out the bumps from the extended saturation bombing expidition of a few months ... miracle of miracles! Israel should drop leaflets for 48 hours warning the residents of what's to come and then drop a bomb that those diaper-heads will never forget. There is no reasoning with terrorists. July 27, 2006, 10:35 a.m.I doubt turning a small town in to glass will do much to help Israel and the West. As you said, there is no reasoning with terrorists. They are not reasonable, and thus will not get the message. Now hitting a small terrorist camp or stronghold with some sort of tactical nuke may deliver the message, yet it may also escalate things beyond anything we'd imagined.

And, can we use the reporters of the NY Times as targetting beacons? They can go in and tell the terrorists we are coming, since they seem to like to reveal lots of other intelligence.
This war will not end until the world gets to the point of carpet bombing just like we did in WW2 to Germany and Japan. That is the only thing these terrorist scumbags will understand.

July 27, 2006, 10:45 a.m.The real tactical point might be:the war against Lebanon,waged by Israel is primarely aimed at the chiites of Hezbollah.These people have some strong support from iran,a religious chia run state,and some by Syria,a secular regime,headed by some alaouis who have very strongly repressed religious fanatics in their country (massacres of Homs etc)-country with a sunni majority.
I think the relevant part of this statement-aside from the obvious 'photo op'- could be a call for Sunni unity and solidarity with Hezbollah.Not a very strong message considering the Iraq situation.

While it is clear ( I hope) that not all Arabs are terrorists, who is decrying the use of the term Holy War by Al-Qaidah. There are American-Arabs in Dearborn, Michigan who are collecting money which they send to Hezbollah. Hezbollah already has killed Americans in those marine barracks in Lebanon during Reagan's term, and the were responsible for what happened on the Cole. Perhaps not even all Shi'ia are terrorists, but I have yet to hear of any Shi'ia cleric who says that killing, evening the infidels, is wrong.
They say that the rest of us should not judge all Arabs or all Muslims by the terribel acts of a few, yet, even our own brother American-Arabs are collecting money to send to Hezbollah. Maybe they do not support the killing of innocent children in Israel, but they wait for the success of Islamic World Hegenomy.

If Islam teaches peace, as so many would claim, where are the voices saying to Hezbollah to stop? Why must Israel obey Saudi Arabia, but Saudi Arabia does not tell Hezbollah to behave as religious people?
