Aug. 5, 2006, 11:07 a.m.Doesn't matter HOW much they own, they still have some ownership right? WHATEVER car you buy you will eventually have problems in every possible way, whether American or Japanese .....so I stand with dan (not that he wanted me to or anything)....who gives a sh*t.

Aug. 5, 2006, 1:32 p.m.I saw a study the other day that said Toyota models have more American-made parts on them than our own domestic companies like Ford and GM. Toyota's models had 80% American-made parts on them. Ford and GM's were around 50%. So, if you buy American, is it really American?

Aug. 5, 2006, 6:35 p.m.NtrSandman, 33% ownership in Japan is basically the same as 51% ownership in the US. At 33%, Ford basically own and runs Mazda.
As for the "American Made" parts %, always be aware that numbers can always be skued. I am not completely sure of what report you read about part % but a great deal of the parts from Japanese car companies are either just assembled here and/or owned by the same suppliers that supply their assemly lines in Japan. (This is niether good or bad; just a fact).
