Aug. 4, 2006, 3:11 p.m.This is so appaling. Rabied dogs need destroyed, agreed. But does anything deserve to be clubbed to death? Do we live in the dark ages?
I shouldnt be surprised that they would treat their animals like that since they also treat infant girls not much better...
What a deplorable act.

Aug. 7, 2006, 3:48 p.m.I think a lot can be said about a culture by the way it treats its animals.
There is much more humane ways to do this.

Aug. 8, 2006, 9:45 p.m.Uh have you guys ever lived in a country where there are 1.25 billion people? Where people remember what it was like to be on the brink of starvation?? Should dogs be valued over human beings. What's dispicable sometimes in the States is how dogs are being treated better than human beings. Until you have grown up in a country where there are more people than resources, I'd wonder before judging and really think who are the ignorant ones.

Aug. 8, 2006, 9:51 p.m.What makes humans different from animals?
It is the rules we play by! Value is perspective...How did soo many animals get it to begin with? There was no human intervention in the begining is how. Now the number is outrageous and it is far more cost effeicient to terminate the animals. It is sad state of affairs in a country hoping to host the olympics, and the largest military in the world. Hmmm those issues point to lack of values and priorities.......oh did we forget the chemical dumps in its fresh water rivers....yes homer to one of the worlds most endangered species....wait am I seeing a trend here. That is the issue TRENDS

Aug. 9, 2006, 7:42 a.m.Live in a place, where stray dogs attack kids all the time, and the action becomes understandable. Clubbing is a brutal way to do it, and I wish they came up with a more humane way to do it, butif the need was there, and I know its there in Mumbai, I have no problem with it.
I love how PETA is calling for a boycott on Chinese Products...Seatshops no problem...Oppressive Censorship no problem, Police State with people sent to Jail for no discernible reason no problem....BUT dont you dare mess with Dogs...Boycott!!

Aug. 9, 2006, 9:03 a.m.Ooh, how horrible! You know, one thing that really frustrates me is the dark picture that seemingly everyone paints of China, one of common abuse, atrocities, and just downright awful human rights...
Hello? does Guantanamo ring a bell to anyone? How about certain U.S. Army soldiers' behavior in Iraq?
As for China as a whole, it's NOT what so many people think. (Sorry to those who would like to continue to think that way.) As for proof, I live in China.

Aug. 15, 2006, 10:10 p.m.Did some of you actually read the article? This wasn't a crack down on just strays- it was every dog- period. Animals were dragged from homes and beaten to death, which by the way is a very stupid way to kill an animal you suspect of being rabid, but I guess once a government is involved common sense flies out the window no matter what country you're in. This seems like a huge overreaction for only 3 rabies related deaths, we have more than that each year in this country. I suppose that dogs are not held as having any value in China, or maybe the government is truly as cruel as the media has painted them to be. I have been boycotting Chinese goods for quite some time (not easy these days) and this latest barbaric act just reinforces my decision. Take note, what do you think this country will do when bird flu arrives, or does anyone remember the mass slaughter of European cattle? Our governments are all short sighted and we in the US keep re-electing them.
