Aug. 24, 2006, 12:53 p.m.Remember, this was the FDA not the White House or the Presidency. I doubt very much that they will rest easy with this decision. Expect someone who thinks they have standing to file a lawsuit in Federal District Court.

Aug. 24, 2006, 12:53 p.m.I happen to be a very avid pro-lifer, but i dont see any reason why this should not be. Theres no real difference between this and a birth control pill. Of course the preference is that people try not to use it as a normal form of contraceptive, but the girl doesnt even know she is pregnant yet, unlike a traditional abortion.

Aug. 24, 2006, 12:54 p.m.Thank heaven somebody has finally come to their senses. This has been needed for years, Hooooray!!! I'm sure the Catholic's will be outraged by this decision, but those guys have been so out of touch for so long that nobody pays any attention to them these days. If the Catholic leadership can't manage and control it they oppose it.

Aug. 24, 2006, 12:56 p.m.wow. the fda is actually using evidence-based research again. women really needed to win this one. our reproductive rights have been slowly eroding for too long. it feels good to have this victory, small though it is.

Aug. 24, 2006, 12:56 p.m.Yes it is about time, and you are right smokeyhustler, it really isn't any different at all than the birth control pill, because after all that's what it is, just a tripple dose of it. It's Great News.

Aug. 24, 2006, 12:59 p.m.dragon,
why is this victory so small? what else is there?
Every form of birth control is now available, and 99% of them w/out a perscription.
I do think it is great though, there will be much less young girls living with the heartache of a regular abortion.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:01 p.m.This is a horrible decision (IMHO). The morning-after pill is dangerous and should only be available in the case of rape. Making it widely available is only encouraging promiscuity, a negative in my opinion.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:08 p.m.somkeyhustler, you are forgetting that those under 18 cannot (and should not) purchase these pills, so young pregnancy may still occur

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:10 p.m.The only problem with this non Rx is that it cannot be monitored. For girls/women who use this drug too many times, is there any long term effects? Since it is not monitored, then could one use it every Monday. I agree it needs to be available, but at what cost? This argument is double sided. There are many great advantages and also disadvantages for the pill. Will they also offer counseling on how not to need this pill? Like, protection or counseling for promiscuity?

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:14 p.m.The younger generation must also be aware of all the STD's that are a hell of a lot worse than getting pregnant. You will survive pregancy. However, HIV and Hepatitis is fatal. The youth believe they are invincible when it comes to everything. We need more education for them.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:16 p.m.ZackofSpades. Good Post....
I really can't imagin how the limited mind works? The individuales thinking this is such a great ruling haven't got a clue about what LIFE is all about. Woulden't it be just great if their Mothers took advantage of this wounderful achievient?
Sincerely. What say you....

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:23 p.m.Explain this to me....if you're already pregnant, then the pills have no effect. So what's the purpose of taking the pills the morning after? If you're not pg, then what do they do?

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:26 p.m.And to think that 'heartache of abortion' is so easy to avoid. Unwanted children don't have to be a problem... if everyone would just use the common sense that God gives them, they could PREVENT pregnancy and not have to murder their children. This is such a huge DUH... I think PLANNED PARENTHOOD means AVOIDING getting pg, not killing our babies after the fact. Makes no sense whatsoever. That group needs to change their name.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:27 p.m.Finally all these promiscuous tramps can breath a little easier. If we could only find a pill for AIDS! Our brave pharmaceutical industry decided to give monkey a razor. Congratulations.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:27 p.m.ssMarilyn: The morning after pill blocks a fertilized egg from latching onto the uterine wall.
-

quemara
Aug. 24, 2006, 1:28 p.m.Well.. to get a little technical..
After sex, if the woman has not ovulated yet... the sperm could wait up to 3 days for the egg. So the pill would stop the fertilization if taken promptly. However, the egg can be fertilized as quickly as 10 min after the deed is done. (If the egg is in the tubes already)
Sorry.. tried not to be too graphic for the fellas.

Aug. 24, 2006, 1:41 p.m.Sanity is starting to come back to life in the good ol USA (the writing was on the wall and the Prez & the FDA finally looked). This is a step in the right direction and one even most Pro-Lifers can get behind.
