Posted by: Ousama 3 years, 4 months agoFirst, let me start by saying my sympathies go out to the family and friends of Steve Irwin. Steve's death is a tragedy, and as a fan of nature films I feel compelled to write this editorial. It's clear to me that Discovery channel is responsible for Steve's death.

Sept. 4, 2006, 5:30 p.m.Ousama: In the video Steve said and I quote: "I'm proud of what I do." Discovery Channel didn't kill Steve, he was killed by a stingray. From the headlines of the newpapers I saw in the video and the comments he was described as a bit of a loose cannon anyway. Who else would carry their own child into an area with a hungry crocodile? Kinda makes you question his sanity in the first place.
Yeah, we do make our own choices and at least he died doing what he loved!

Sept. 4, 2006, 5:59 p.m.Play with fire and sooner or later you get burned. He was playing in someone eles back yard. It's a shame. I agree with the writer of this artical. If it looks dangerous it should not be tempered with. We all knew it was just a matter of time. I for one thought it was be a crocodile that did him in. This was probably a better way. Hopefully he was notw.

Sept. 4, 2006, 6:49 p.m.How on earth could his accidental death be Discovery's fault?! It was a freak accident and think about it, if Discovery and other networks didn't get all this coo, scary, up-close footage, would anyone even watch? Steve was only doing his job and got too close to the animal. Naturally, the animal went into 'defensive mode' and killed Steve.
How is that Discovery's fault?

Sept. 4, 2006, 7:33 p.m.Good grief....after reading Steve's history...he would be out doing this type of thing with or without the Discovery Channel. He ran a zoo, and had been capturing and releasing crocs long before his career w/the Discovery Channel. It was his choice to do the things he did....he was an avid conservationist and wanted to raise peoples awareness. Blaming the Discovery Channel for his death is asinine.

Sept. 4, 2006, 9:25 p.m.I've seen your name bandied about this site, usually in reference to some netscape/digg crap. Now I know for sure that I can skip wasting my time visiting your site. You sir, are an idiot.

Sept. 4, 2006, 10:13 p.m.I agree that Discovery channel didn't kill Steve.
Yes the stingray did kill Steve.
He took too many chances.
Can you play with fire and not get burned?

Sept. 4, 2006, 10:36 p.m.Hey, Ed:
You're absolutely right. Ann Coulter is the stingray's barb that killed Steve!

Sept. 5, 2006, 12:09 a.m.This is a very unfair statement to make. It was his own doing. He cheated death on a daily basis, and loved doing it.

Sept. 5, 2006, 12:45 a.m.I won't miss him, he was a showoff and an idiot and now it is very obvious that his death was a combination of the two, on the lighter but bad taste side...
Perhaps if he had been wearing sunblock he wouldn't have been harmed by the bad rays!

Sept. 5, 2006, 4:22 a.m.a stingray is not a croc, a stingray is not a dangerous animal. I've handled them (caught big ones accidentally fishing) and lived to tell about it. IRONIC and freak accident that something as harmless as a stingray killed a guy who juggled mambas. As for comparing a man who lived around crocs all his life to a pedophile pointlessly dangling a baby out a window, this also seems silly. On the flip side, even his dad said, "I think Steve spent a little too much time in the bush". Too much time in the bush is australian for crazy...

Sept. 5, 2006, 5:30 a.m.Today we face losing someone too soon Despite his antics, including him holding his baby while feeding "Crikey". Steve Irwin has left a legitmate legacy for animal welfare.
Not animal rights. Especially, teaching children on Animal
Planet. Speaking of which, If his last tape is tobe seen then
it shouldn't be on the Animal Planet channel. Not with
unsupervised children watching. The Discovery Network must
putit on either the original Discovery or the Discovery Times channel. On prime time with families watching together or better yet latenight when kids are not supposed
tobe watching.

Sept. 5, 2006, 5:49 a.m.He was passionate for what he believed in. He knew he had a purpose with the world as long as he lived. He strove to reach the dreams his heart desired. God bless his family and his millions of friends.

Sept. 5, 2006, 7:09 a.m.DARSPAGE: you made an excellent point. Little children loved and worshiped this guy. To broadcast his death where children can see it would be cruel, callous, and borderline evil. Anybody wants to see that can go on the net. Money and ratings, sick if they do try to make money off it. Thanks again for making that point.
