Posted by: Karina 3 years, 3 months agoThe country's largest theater chain, Regal Entertainment Group, has passed on playing the film, citing the subject matter as the primary reason. "We would not be inclined to program this film," Regal Entertainment Group CEO Mike Campbell said. "We feel it is inappropriate to portray the future assassination of a sitting president, regardless of political affiliation."

Oct. 6, 2006, 10:45 p.m.What a pity. I hope that trend doesn't propagate to where I live. I'm looking forward to checking this one out. I heard it did well at the Toronto Film Festrival.

Oct. 7, 2006, 12:49 a.m.If they used the name of George W Bush as the name of the president, then they're wrong. If they used some other name, then I see no problem. Dave was a movie put out in 1993 while Clinton was in office about a president shot but not dead and replaced by another person. This never caused any problem because the name wasn't the same as the sitting president.

Oct. 7, 2006, 12:53 a.m.My jaw dropped when I heard about this movie. Truly fascinating, not necessarly the specific subject matter, but releasing a movie about the assasination of the current (unpopular) president?
I think this film takes pop art into a whole new realm of subversion.

Oct. 7, 2006, 8:27 a.m.This really is too bad and a kind of censorship altho the company has the right to exercise their judgement. Why, I feel it is sad is because all I have read about the film, I haven't seen it, is that it is not an anti Bush film at all but explores the possibility of what might happen. Hobe, I think you are too worried about something that is not taking place. and don't blame Hollywood as it is a freign film.

Oct. 8, 2006, 3:27 p.m.lfergie812: Good point. Clearly the movie would not have the same impact as one with a fantasy name. I am sure they took this into account when they put the film together. The President that "Dave" played had a stroke while committing adultery. Which I found to be an interesting statement on the political persona
I agree with dandt: I will not watch a film with such a terrible premise.
Although censorship IS an ugly box to open.
Frankiet: Yes, it is not a Hollywood project.
Peace~
