Divorce Rates Highest for Christians, Lowest for Atheists »
Posted by: michaelmartine 3 years, 1 month agoconservative Protestant Christians, on average, have the highest divorce rate, while mainline Christians have a much lower rate. They found some new information as well: that atheists and agnostics have the lowest divorce rate of all.

Oct. 8, 2006, 10:26 p.m.It's not surprising, the red states also have more bankruptcies than the blue states. If you're that close to God I guess you're allowed certain indiscretions.

Oct. 8, 2006, 10:42 p.m.Red states also have more abortions. They harp on all the things they think are evil, then obsess over them, then get attracted to them, then do them, then condemn others who might have thoughts like them.
Sick fuc*s.

They do not get married?
Christians get married because God's word instructs us to do so. Hello..... who? The atheists or agnostics are supplying the information.

Oct. 9, 2006, 2:15 p.m.This is obvious. More Protestants marry then 'live together' without marriage.
Statistics can be made to say just about anything.
Right on Rail!

Oct. 11, 2006, 9:01 a.m.Hey boneheads, learn about how surveys are conducted. The survey is only of married people and the rates are adjusted to compensate the different amounts of people in each group.

Oct. 12, 2006, 9:48 a.m.Uh, I think the first thing in the study was that couples are MARRIED, not living together (by the way , a lot of christian's live together too). I have noticed when there are "stats" in favor of Christians, boy, hoop and holler about SEE SEE SEE, we are great! And then when they go against, its of the study was flawed, can't be right, etc. Sorry, can't have it both ways! You marry and divorce more than any other group, ACCEPT IT, you guys are flawed just like the rest of the world, only, it appears, more so!

Oct. 13, 2006, 2:09 p.m.Gee, my husband is an Agnostic. He MARRIED me 25 years ago. I'm what I'd like to call a non Christian for Christ. I love God and Jesus and am highly spititual but just can't stand his ignorant, hateful, two faced followers. (liberal Christians not included) I have seen dozens of my Christian friends end up divorced. We know several other couples who are either agnostic or atheist and have been happily MARRIED for 20 or more years, adhering to our vows much better than what we seen on the other side of the fence. I, in my time, have had several, MARRIED Christian men come onto to me, including a minister!

Oct. 19, 2006, 10:09 p.m.It IS possible to be a GOOD Christian. There are a lot of good, compassionate Christians out there, but no one seems to listen to them any more. I keep thinking I'm an atheist, agnostic, very reformed Hindu, or a non-believer, but the Religion quiz on beliefnet.com (I think that's it) keeps telling me I'm a liberal Protestant.
Back when I was young (too long ago) liberal Christians dominated the nation. Then we invented the wheel, and the native Indians began building the Interstate Highway System....

Oct. 19, 2006, 4:28 a.m.There have been two surveys on this topic from Barna.
The original survey (linked to above) asked only for religious affiliation and whether or not the respondents had been divorced, not whether or not they had ever been married. That was one of the main reasons it was cited as being misleading, and eventually was pulled down from Barna's site (though it has been copied to many others).
The more recent survey from the same group, comparing Christians who have been married to non-Christians who have been married, shows almost identical divorce rates. The complaint against the current survey is that it groups Atheists and Agnostics together with religious groups with traditionally very low divorce rates, such as Muslims and Hindus, as "non-Christian".
