The BBC's Andrew North, in Baghdad, said the explosions started at about 2300 (2100 BST) and were becoming "evermore frequent" as the fire appeared to be spreading.

"Given the number and the scale of these explosions - and this is a very large base with a large number of troops - casualties are a possibility," he said.

The troops were safely evacuated. Also the surounding area of the neighborhood are reporting no casulties.

The US military blamed the explosions on ammunition "cooking off" in the heat. It's not the Iraqi insurgents like you think. So there.

Very interesting. I wonder if a sapper got into the ammo dump.

It's all under control. Let's "stay the course". We're good at diplomacy, so it won't be long before the Shiites and Sunnis are getting along.

The explosions went on for HOURS, according to eye witnesses. It's probably a bit too early to know about casualties, or causes.

My Nephew is in Falcon, they have been fired upon all week. I do not know if he is OK, we have not heard from him for 5 days. Last month a mortar shell landed at his room door.

I also have a PenPal her name is Nibras, she is a modern Iraqi woman. She lives in Dora she Blogs, why not read her view on the conflict?

Diogenes12: I find the report seriously flawed. They're only using deaths that were reported during Saddam's time. This does not take into account the millions killed in the Iran-Iraqwar, when they gassed their own people the Kurds or when they invaded Kuwait? It also fails to take into account those that simply disappeard in one of the hundreds of mass graves we continue to find. A report of this nature, the way it's presented is very slanted.
