October 23 marks the fifth anniversary of Apple's iPod. CEO Steve Jobs reflected with NEWSWEEK's Steven Levy (author of "The Perfect Thing," a book about the iPod out this month) about the past, present and future of the device that changed Apple-and the world.

    Only 5 years? The many changes of the iPod would seem it has been out a lot longer.

    I think this thing has changed the way I listen to music ever since I got one 3 years ago. No more carrying loads of CD's or no more changing CD after CD when listening to music at home.

    40gigs and 4500 songs later, it is almost out of space. Time to upgrade to an 80G video version.
