This is not new...I am actively involved in a program to derive low cost clean diesel from high sulphur coal, using the Fischer Tropsch process.

in my area diesel is about .50 cents more than regular per gallon. This is ridiculous. My first assumption was the oil people were flooding the market with regular gas and screwing the truckers. Now I wonder what the cost will be for diesel.

How do you know about the mileage drop? Have you been able to run some of the new stuff and compare?

I would like to know where you get your figures too. From what I read there is about a 4% decrease in fuel efficiency which would be a drop from 6.5mpg to 6.24mpg and that was expected to be phased out by 2015 as new technologies are put in place.

All,
If anyone interested in getting more information regarding the drop on MPG when using the ULSD... I could give you the International Trucker's Conference call number (Live) every Tuesday. You could participate or just listen and get a better idea. Conference call comprise of your day to day professional truckers comparing notes on how to combat the MPG drop.
