      Um, perhaps they can make their articles not require a login. Haven't the mainstream papers realized that ad based revenue doesn't happen when you force someone to log in? I can understand if someone wants to comment or somehow interact with a site, but for reading and linking, they need to clue in that they won't get more eyeballs by locking up the articles.
