Oct. 31, 2006, 3:03 p.m.Remember back in January when Pat Robertson suggested Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for ``dividing God's land?'' The Israelis were furious and pulled the plug on a $50 million tourist center for which Robertson was raising funds. Extremists can't hear how they sound to the real world but suffer real-world consequences all the same.

Oct. 31, 2006, 3:08 p.m.Why does one film make anyone who believes in God a religious zealot! I do not claim anything but my belief! So this guy makes a film on one very radical church and all Christians are evil people. I think not, people who do not believe need to read more and research better! Hey,they should read the bible and go to several churches. You know honest to God research!

That place was a looney bin
And so far as portraying all christians as bad well too often "christians" push their political agenda while hiding behind the mask of their faith.
For instance I believe Jesus' main thrust was to help the poor and yet you don't see that as a moral majority platform. They (MM)are too busy sticking their nose in how others choose to live to actually follow the bible. Perhaps thats where we get the "evil" idea.
Or it could be the obvious contradiction of advocating a "right to life" and war at the same time. hypocrites.

Oct. 31, 2006, 5:21 p.m.Zealots existed long before the age of film. Innovations in media and communication just allowed them to spread their tentacles further into the hearts, minds, and breadbaskets of the world. Who knows, maybe now a few more kids won't drink the Kool-aid...

Feb. 7, 2007, 11:04 a.m.My niece is being sent to a Catholic school. At first I was upset, but then I realized that the most adamant atheists I know went to Catholic school.
A religious education is one of the best ways to turn someone off to religion entirely.

Oct. 31, 2006, 5:59 p.m.With us or against us. Criticize the war, you want terrorists to win. Criticise a looney church group that gets kids to pray to a cardboard cutout of Bush and you think all christians are zealots.
I really like the request to not show the film in a nearby city. Did they fear roving gangs of anarchistic atheists would pounce on the camp and make not nice?

Oct. 31, 2006, 6:02 p.m.They will just find another way to brainwash their young!
They are probably fitting them for their little KKK robes right now!
I wonder - Do they have their "W" worship altar cutout up for auction on eBay yet?

Oct. 31, 2006, 6:32 p.m.There are churches which push their beliefs more than others. That does not make them bad or violent. They may push their views more openly, more confrontationally, yet not violently.
If the film had anything to do with inciting the vandalism then the filmmakers were wrong to do so. Judging from the "hate all Christians" posts then and now it might have.
One persons religious instruction is anothers indoctrination. They have the legal right to instruct their children in their own religion.

If your summer camp for christian youth can only continue on if it hides it's existence, that is one effed up "summer camp" you got going there.

Nov. 1, 2006, 8:43 a.m.The A/G began in California, the turn of the 1900's. There was a lot of good done back in those early years.
Comfort, and third generation converts has displayed a lack of 'wisdom' for this day and age. This Church denomination is not alone, all denominations could use some tweaking.
Time changes. The Message NEVER changes. However the way the messenger behaves must change.

Nov. 1, 2006, 9:06 a.m.I think a camp like this misses the big message that Christ came to teach. God is love. If you love the world (which it is said God created) you cannot put down others because they do not subscribe to your view of the world. That is not love.
We need to have a renewal of religious freedom in this country. An acknowledgement of all the religions: Jewish, Christian, Islam, Shinto, Hindu, Bhuddist, Taoist, Agnostic, etc. And we need more tolerance to each other.
I don't personally affiliate myself with any church or religious belief but consider myself a spiritual person. My relationship with the devine is personal. I feel an organization does nothing to enhance my spirituality.
I feel sorry for these children and the children of all other zealots from other religions. They are doomed to become zealots themselves.

Nov. 1, 2006, 9:17 a.m.The irreligious are the least tolerant, as this sequence of events clearly illustrates. On the other hand, perhaps the Reverend Winston Titus should simply issue a fatwa directed at the vandals.
But those "intolerant Christian extremists" don't do that, do they?

Nov. 1, 2006, 9:56 a.m.HEY lovelytxwoman, YOU NEED TO DO RESEARCH... re-read your post below
"Why does one film make anyone who believes in God a religious zealot! I do not claim anything but my belief! So this guy makes a film on one very radical church and all Christians are evil people. It was 2 WOMEN who made the movie, not one guy.. you are proof that christians are ignorrant.

Nov. 1, 2006, 10:05 a.m.Hopefully the children of the future will OUTLAW all public displays of religion out of sheer logic and rational thought. Religion needs to be taken back into the body and mind and less into the air. You wanna have faith in something, good for you, but keep it to yourself and stop poisoning mankind with ignorrance, intolerance and arrogance. Until your "God" appears to EVERYONE and announces it's presence to the world, it is just a myth. myth's are proof NEGATIVE.

How do you qualify irreligious? May I assume that you mean people that do not espouse any organized religion? I would strongly disagree with this observation. I know many people who feel this way about religion yet I find them quite tolerent of peoples religion. My experience has shown that what irritates an irreligious person the most is having a religiously oriented person try and force thier particular belief system on them. I think most of us agnostics and athiests have a live and let live attitude about religion, leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. This camp seems to be very cultish and any assembly that leans towards cultism is probably not good regardless of what the cult might be.

Nov. 1, 2006, 10:31 a.m.Perhaps "antireligious" would be a better word, although I still think that "irreligious" is accurate enough. Some people, including some who post here, seem to have dedicated an inordinate amount of time and energy toward denying others the right to express their own religious beliefs. "Live and let live" seems to have gone by the boards, and these people appear to want nothing less than the complete eradication of Christianity, and perhaps of other religions as well.
I don't believe that some of this crowd are very deep thinkers. Many of them were very enthusiastic when the Beatles were seeking "truth and beauty" with a Hindu guru.

It is amazing how they are guided by the same Holy Ghost someone to be an extremist and the other one to be meek, very interesting, what is the game the Holy Ghost is playing with Christian faithful, I would be happy to listen to know the truth about the Holy Ghost.

Nov. 1, 2006, 10:34 a.m.I have not seen evidence in this forum that you are "happy to listen" to any opinion other than your own. For that reason, I think that any further exchange with you would be fruitless.
