    Under European legislation, doctors who gain their qualifications from countries within the European Economic Area - EU countries plus Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein - have a right to registration in the UK and are exempt from the GMC's language tests. Similarly, if UK-qualified doctors go to work in other European countries, they are exempt from language-testing.
