Dec. 31, 2006, 2:44 a.m.once again, the US teaches barbarism and misery when they invade, and this is the result--a barbaric execution that leads to a result completely opposite of what was intended. SH is not dead or in hell, by now he in the uterus of some unsuspecting woman and will be reborn. oh well, that is what everyone wanted, and that is what they will get. more pain and suffering on earth, a continuing cycle. the man was charismatic enough to rise to power, and this will continue.

Dec. 31, 2006, 11:18 a.m.I didn't see any graphic content. That camera operator sucks. Anyway, like I said before ... Are we safer now? I guess terrorism is over. What are we gonna do about the other tyrants in the world who killed more people than Saddam?

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:01 a.m.Seems there is a few questions raised here: The morality of state sanctioned capital punishment or eye for eye type justice; the morality of posting it on the Web; the morality of each and every one of us desiring to watch it.
To the first I say: killing anyone no matter how evil demeans us all, the evil is not of degrees - we should all decide whether we can support killing a human being regardless of what he's done, in the abstract we might say no-way but what if its your family? To the second - film footage is acceptable as a record - every idiot with a mobile phone filming and posting it is not and thirdly, the voyeur nature of watching it reduces us and the watched to poor sad examples of our kind.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:38 a.m.According to Yahoo, this is what happens when the people are yelling.....
Guard: "You have destroyed us! You have killed us! You have made us live in destitution!"
Saddam: "I have saved you from destitution and misery and destroyed your enemies, the Persian and Americans."
Guard: "Goddamn you."
Saddam: "Goddamn you."
-Saddam, smileing, taunts the guards by saying "they were not showing manhood"-
Saddam: "I testify that there is no Ilah but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. I testify that there is no Ilah but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad-"
-The floor drops when Saddam is mid way through the his second recitation of the Muslim prayer "Shahada"-
Guard: "The tyrant has fallen!"
Different Guard: "Let him swing for three minutes."
I can't fully say its credible, but its the only thing I can get thats close to a transcript or translator.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:36 p.m.Told Hubby this morning that thanks to the age in which we live, we'd see it on the 'net within a few days even tho media stated video would not be released. Always someone around with a camera ...

Dec. 30, 2006, 10 p.m.This is a really poor video. I didn't know it was so hard to hold up a camera phone.
Its not that gruesome--its just a black screen. I have seen worse on my tv screen watching HBO.
I can assume that some people with have theories that he is alive unless they have a more clear video. Mind you, I think he is dead and buried next to his sons--but alas we have people who think Elvis is alive. I just know that with the quickness of his execution, poor videos like these, what I have seen on al-Jazeera and quick burial, those theories might start popping up--unless of course a more clearer image is produced. It's just amazing that we got such clear pictures with his sons and Zarqawi but these are so blurred and oftentimes just a black picture.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:48 p.m.does anyone remember the romanian(?) dictator being shot by a firing squad? that was on U.S. national news networks.
-

mr-sir
Dec. 31, 2006, 1:33 a.m.Do you recall how that went down? They put out the call for 3 volunteers (from the army) to come out for the firing squad. Instead, over 300 turned up! While they were trying to organise the situation, the troops opened fire on their own accord. The dictator and his wife (I forget their names) were both riddled beyond repair!

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:50 p.m.It is so surreal to see this man in such a compromising position. As someone who does not support the death penalty my heart is torn. On one side this man was a horrific human and deserved punishment to the greatest possible end. On the other hand... I just do not know. May God bless us all and peace to Iraq.

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:33 p.m.I am with you on this as well. What is the difference between a "jury" who sits down and judiciously contemplates ordering death to a human vs. a mass murderer who does it in his/her own way?
There is no difference.
No one has the right to take life. Only God.
I actually prayed today to spare Saddam's life, not because I think he is innocent or deserves to be freed, but because his death is not God's way.
Also, it solves nothing, and is a sham in itself.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:57 p.m.I had a long debate with myself as to watch this or not.
I did watch the video.
Crude, Barbaric.
Add another Death to the Bush list of executions.
Pres Bush as Governor of Texas put more inmates to death than any past or present Governor in the history of America.
Just add one more death to the Bush List.
Thats it.
It will solve nothing for Iraq.
What a vengeful man you are Mr. Bush..
-

Twistoflex
Dec. 30, 2006, 11:08 p.m.Actually, the history will recall that a US puppet jurist appointed by a US puppet gov't conducted a trial that craftily avoided any discovery leading to the exposure of Saddam's criminal accomplices who enabled him to conduct mass murder operations. The trial did not concern itself with the mass murder, but rather less than two hundred executions, many of which were summary judgments.
In this I obviously do not argue that Saddam was not a heinous murderer, but I do argue that the trial - which saw the murder of several of his defense lawyers and the replacement of the presiding judge - as a far cry from justice. In essence, while the a priori conduct of the "trial" was to swiftboat Saddam to the gallows, it was tactically about covering up the criminal complicity of the Reagan/Bush 41 regimes and several European countries that supplied Saddam with chemical and biological weapons and the delivery systems. Beyond that was a 40 year relationship with the CIA.

OK, I can see the stupid people have woken up. The governor of any state has nothing to do with putting people to death. They don't try, judge, convict or sentence a criminal. The only thing they can do is give a stay from execution. But to say they put criminals to death is plain stupid.

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:11 p.m.THIS INDIVIDUAL OBVIOUSLY KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE POLITICAL/JUDICIAL PORCESS THAT PRECEEDED THIS. IF I MADE SUCH RADICAL DECISONS/STATEMENTS BEFORE KNOWING THE FACTS ABOUT MY PATIENTS, PEOPLE WOULD DIE ON A DAILY BASIS.

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:27 p.m.Great Post mamasan!
Yes, although a Gov/Pres. has no direct control over the Judicial system, he is the "Executor", and the buck stops (and starts) with him and moreover, his will.
It is truly too bad that Saddam was executed with the backing of our (Bush's) interests. You other poster's should do some research, Bush was getting back at Saddam for the "hit" that he placed on Pa- Bush (and the rest of the family).
And the reason that he wasn't "taken out" by our troops in the hole is quite obvious.. Where would the glory be in that? Bush need to kill Saddam, not some grunt!
This was an opportunity for Bush to improve his "rating" in America, and was a card held in his back pocket to use when he needed it most.
Even Al-Malaki stated that the only people who know when Saddam will die are "GOD AND BUSH"... 'nuff said.
The Dems are getting into power on Monday. Bush needed the stroke. Wake UP!

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:44 p.m.Mr.Redd ----- Saddam was handed over to the Iraqi government and tried by Iraq. Bush didn't do this. Even a 12 year old knew that.

Dec. 31, 2006, 1:10 a.m.Oh, for crying out loud! Stop blaming all the world's ills on Bush! As Governor he refused to commute a sentence, he was not the jury or prosecutor. You knew the video would be crude but watched it anyway. You are the hypocrite, and if not a voyeur. So get off of the soap box.

Dec. 31, 2006, 1:23 a.m.Mamasan, unless Governor Bush forced them to commit the crime that got them into deathrow in the first place, You can't say the Governor executed them. The law did. They knew the law and decide to break it. Simple as that.

Dec. 31, 2006, 2:18 a.m.Your a Moron. As the governor of a State you don't sentence anyone to death... MORON. You have the authority to stop it. Jurys sentence people to death. Idiots like you is what make this countrys systems fail. The death penalty doesn't work because people don't see it happen and don't fear it. If you kill people you should die and they should put it on pay per view... then it would work. The uneducated like you is the problem in the world. I agree his death solved nothing but it wasn't barbaric nor crude. It's whats called justice. What a moron you are Mr. mamassan. Maybe you should learn a little about how the government in a state and country works before you critize it. I'm as guilty as you I called you a moron and that my opinion. When in fact your an idiot. Look that word up and you'll know why i called you that. It's people like you that have no idea what they are talking about when they speak that make forums like these frustrating to read.

Dec. 31, 2006, 2:28 a.m.Ummmm Did Bush order or carry out the execution? Ummmm no. The Iraqui people did. Just add you comments to the long list of incredibly stupid comments made by idiotic liberals like yourself, who are willing to spin anything possible to blame Bush for everything. Maybe the next governor of Texas should just let all of the violent criminals go free because they're victims of society right?

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:58 p.m.This a very graphic view of the Islamic law in action, unfortunately it is for anyone who is not a beliver by their rules. If you are not a Muslim, then this will be your fate also if they have their way. And they wonder
why the rest of the world is afraid of them. This could
happen in the USA if we do not stop it here and now. But
what politician has the gonads to do what needs to be done?

That would explain why he obviously is not looking at the view finder, (it moves up, down and sideways away from the target), and he keeps apearing to put it down at random times (it suddenly goes to the stairs or floor or blacks right out). Is he trying to hide it when someone looks at him?

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:32 p.m."...The issue became more problematic for the Reagan administration, however, in the spring and summer of 1988, when Iraq engaged in chemical attacks against Iraqi Kurds in the village of Halabja and at other locations. As early as September 2, the State Department confirmed an attack against Kurdish insurgents that had taken place on August 25, while a memorandum to the secretary of state commented that "the failure of the international community to mobilize an effective response has lowered the inhibitions on use of these weapons in the region and elsewhere." Nevertheless, the Reagan administration opposed congressional efforts to respond by imposing economic sanctions, arguing that they would be contrary to U.S. interests. Among the possible negative results cited were the endangerment of contracts for "massive postwar reconstruction" in Iraq. The administration succeeded in blocking the legislation.
