An important story. Very poignantly it emphasizes differences between a truly modern democratic society, Israel, with that of a presumed modern Muslim society (Bahrain) mired in religiously inspired hate. The story overtly demonstrates the basis for perpetuation of problems in the Mideast as well as problems with marriage of church and state. Bahrain likes to present itself to the world as a modern nation but, given the chance to prove its openness and respect - or at least tolerance of others, it showed the falsity of its facade of modernity by giving in to religious bigotry. Bahrain doesn't even border Israel. How sad. Like science, the fine and performing arts, literature, athletics is international in scope and should have no boundaries. The Olympic competitions demonstrate that ideal - except when Commuist USSR used them for political purposes. Israel, like the US, has open competitions. If countries refuse to participate its because of bigotry. Society loses.

That was a very stupid and assinine thing for Bahrain to do. Strip him of his citizenship over winning in Israel. I'd figure arabs would tout that. Would rub it in. Stripped him of his citizenship over hate. I'll be the arabs still don't understand why they are hated all over the world. What iceholes!

I would hate to think what they would have done to him if he had lost.

America is barring it citizen from visiting countries that are hostile to her, why is it wrong for Bahrain to do the same, Israel is considered to be the enemy no one of the Muslim world, which is also one of the top reasons the Muslim countries have strained relationship with the US ad the west. Without the country called Israel the world will be a better place and the US will have less problem with Muslim countries, Israel is a thorn in the flesh, each and every Muslim should treat Israel like a plague and keep away from any kind of dealing until Palestinian win back their territories. Let the Bahraini Jewish citizen take the second class citizenship in Israel and be part of Israel. Bobcat you have lack understanding of sensitive issues of the Muslim world, you need to educate yourself.

What bigoted and hatefilled comments from Daylight and Zionists. Zionists did not even discuss the story nor its ramifications; just spewed hate. Daylight claims that Israel is a thorn in the flesh to Muslims. Aside from the overt hate expressed, Daylight fails to note that Arabs and Muslims are doing the hating: Israel has never done anything to Bahrain to incur its enmity. Daylight also claims the world would be a better place without Israel, and, by extension Jews. If so, then I hope Daylight and cohorts are not using any of the great medical and technological advances to maintain their health and prosperity that derived from Jewish scientists etc. The odds are, that if not for those contributions, Daylight et al. would not be alive today. Such people forget that their freedoms today and American dominance in the world were dependent upon the great Jewish physicists, scientists and technologists who lived prior to and during WW II on up to those actively contributing today.
