DID AHMADINEJAD REALLY CALL TO "WIPE ISRAEL OFF THE MAP?" »
Posted by: Sandmn 2 years, 5 months agoI read again in this morning's Boston Globe a matter of fact reference to Iran's threat to "wipe Israel off the map." This echoes the repeated allegation by President Bush and other top administration officials that Iran's President Ahmadinejad has issued such a call. "We are talking about a specific threat on a partner of the U.S.

Jan. 8, 2007, 3:27 p.m.There are a great many people out there who have not gotten wind of the translational problems with the Iranian presidents speeches. Here is one site, of many, with a better translation and understanding of what the man was saying, or quoting. This translation requires an understanding of Farsi, the language used. This deliberate mistranslation and the lie that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons and not energy, are stemming the thinking of justifying a pre-emptive strike against Iran. These 2 fallacies rank up there with the Iraqi wmd and chemical labs lies used to invade Iraq. Are we intent on killing more american soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iranians based on more lies?

Jan. 8, 2007, 6:18 p.m.Great insight and observation sandmn! As a connoisseur of various languages, I can appreciate your comments and how they can be taken out of context (grammatical, cultural, etc.) This is an example of taking a TEXT out of CONTEXT for a PRETEXT.

Jan. 8, 2007, 6:03 p.m.neo, doesn't it bare on us to verify the alleged propaganda used to incite a nation of people to the "let's nuke em" realm? We assumed that our fearless leaders represented things to us honestly a few years ago, and look what that turned into. It's time to call these people on these lies. And the same for this crap about Iran seeking nuclear weapons. Every authoritive body out there has declared that Iran is not seeking weapons, yet Bush has chosen to swallow the Israeli intel again, and pi$$ on his FBI or atomic energy commissions.

Jan. 8, 2007, 5:31 p.m.Even if he was misinterpreted, the misinterpretation is now stuck in so many people's minds that it'll never get dislodged. How many people still go around mouthing the lie that Gore claimed to have invented the Internet?

Jan. 9, 2007, 11:26 a.m.How many people are still repeating that Iraq was involved in 911? Once some people get an idea in their head it will not come out.

Jan. 8, 2007, 6:39 p.m.If one were to look at some of the other reasons why Iran is trying to develop its nuclear program they would need consider that Iran's oil exports are rapidly shrinking while domestic energy demand continues to soar.
I never bought the BS that they were seeking nukes to wipe out Israel as it is a losing proposition - especially when one considers the fact that Israel is supposed to have some 300 nukes of its own!

Jan. 8, 2007, 7:33 p.m.sithlord02:I am not privileged enough to pick where the truth comes from. This error in interpretation has already been acknowledged, but it has not received the fervor or news headlines like the mis interpretations got. Sorry this upsets you so much. Iran doesn't need defending, it only needs the lies to stop. You make a lot of false allegations. Who eyes have you been looking into? Is it one big brown eye? I would love to believe that my president tells the truth, unfortunately, we all know differently. Almost all, I mean. And saddam had wmd too, I suppose. Open your eyes and see the hypocrisy.

Jan. 8, 2007, 7:44 p.m.And the same argument holds true for the osama tapes and their misinterpretations, right? But what did Bush say about their being wrong translations? Oh yeah. We didn't do it. It was an outside firm we hired to translate the tapes, my eye. This is as deliberate as those were. Now ask yourself this. WHo benefits by the lies? WHo benefits from an invasion of Iran? Who is promoting the lies?

Jan. 8, 2007, 7:05 p.m.A side question: When is Iran scheduled to switch its petroleum sales over to the Euro? That'd cost the US quite a bit of money, unless we could somehow prevent it from happening...

Jan. 8, 2007, 7:10 p.m.It is supposed to be going on as we speak and it isn't only Iran. A number of the OPEC nations have been considering a similar move and I wonder what will happen when Venezuela makes the switch!

Jan. 8, 2007, 8:56 p.m.I personally believe NOTHING said by a politician or any of their mouthpieces. They always have their own game they're playing in the background that has nothing to do with our security, the peace and happiness of the populace or anything that we would like.
This nation should not be involved globally. If business wants to go global, fine. But the government should by OF, BY and FOR the PEOPLE. Until we have taken care of the PEOPLE here, we have no business invading other countries, giving out foreign aid or meddling otherwise in foreign governments.
For far too long, business has been controling the government. And the people have been ignored. We need all lobbying to stop now. It is nothing more than legalized bribery. And WE, the ciizens, pay the price.

Jan. 8, 2007, 9:06 p.m.Many Iranians and especially college activists vehemetnly oppose President Ahmadinejad -- even at risk to themselves. WE [those of us who do not want a nuclear encounter with Iran]need to pressure our government and our media to take up the coverage and support of the Iranian students.
Defense contractors and their warmongering cronies only call for the spread of democracy when it is convenient to use it as a justification for war. Let's embarass the puppet media and our pre-paid-politicians by challenging their lack of support for those brave Iranians seeking the removal of Ahmadinejad.
DID ALMADINJAD REALLY CALL TO "WIPE ISRAEL OFF THE MAP?"
I don't know; but I know he's a dangerous madman.
But then again, I imagine the U.S. appears more threatening to world peace than even Iran and their unpopular leader, as well. Would you agree?

Jan. 8, 2007, 10:37 p.m.Right on, Spade!
We have to remember one chapter of history where the Shah of Iran systematically tortured hundreds of thousands of Iranians under the tutelage of CIA! Our dark deeds of that period are hard for the Iranians to forget, the same way Pearl Harbor was very hard for us to forget!
Our past is very often the prologue for the rest of the world!
Peace and Blessings!

Jan. 8, 2007, 10:12 p.m.Ahmandinejad will likely be voted out the next election, as he has managed to pi$$ off the students there. But, he has quite a few student supporters too. I'm all for taking this guy outside and teaching him some manners, but we can't take his words or intent and prejudices and wipe out a country over it. And ying yang, to take anyone and kill them, is murder and puts you on a much lesser level. But if defending yourself, then it's seen as okay. Which would you prefer? Murderer or defender? As it stands, anyone who attacks Iran, is no more than a murderer, as they have done absolutly nothing to provoke an attack by this country.

Jan. 8, 2007, 10:49 p.m.What it seems that the majority of you fail to understand is that Ahmandi-Nejad does nothing without the direct approval of the Supreme Leader Ali Hoseini-Khamenei. The students and their activism not withstanding it is still he and the other religious leaders that call the shots and their power hasn't weakened one iota!

Jan. 9, 2007, 12:11 a.m."done absolutely nothing to provoke an attack by this country"???
Iran funds & trains almost every terrorist organization on the planet and you call that nothing? I have seen many here in their arguments against the war/invasion of Iraq attest that Iran is the one we should have gone after but you take the position that they are just the poor little guy getting picked on and all they want to do is get along with everyone? Give me a break!

Jan. 8, 2007, 11:01 p.m.Oh, by the way, when the OPEC countries switch to Euro as a currency of record, the OPEC's investments in US Bonds and Treasuries will start devaluing, and that will cause a run on the dollar! Not a good picture!
It would be worthwhile why OPEC is planning the switch!
When our national resources get diverted to an illegal, immoral and Unconstitutional war, the fundamental supports of our currency become shaky and the true value of our GDP goes down. The rest of the world feels it much sooner than we do. The oil barons are smart enough to understand this and they move money where it is safe and gets a better yield!
Most of our IOUs are owned by OPEC and China.
Wouldn't you switch to Euro if you were in their place?
Peace and Blessings!
