Jan. 9, 2007, 12:50 p.m.Since Linksys owns the iPhone trademark, I don't know how that name is going to work.

Jan. 9, 2007, 7:52 p.m.Technology Expert:
It was noted today that Cisco and Apple have been in talks over the name for a while...looks like they're gong to work out some sort of deal.

Jan. 9, 2007, 12:56 p.m.Additional details are that the phone will run OS X. There will be no keyboard. Jobs made a point of how hard keyboards are static and cannot be changed. The iPhone will use a full screen and a system called Multi-Touch. And no stylus.
2 megapixel camera, SIM tray (leans toward Cingular as I previously posted, eh), microphone input.
I'm not sure about the no keyboard. It's easy to dial in the dark using your fingers, but will they simulate touch?
-

TechnologyExpert
Jan. 9, 2007, 1 p.m.Nice touch. Proximity sensor. When you bring it to your ear the screen shuts off and the touch input is disabled.

Jan. 9, 2007, 3:53 p.m.Looks awesome. A nice way to combine the phone with the iPod there -- not to mention Mac OS X, and an internet connection. The $500 price tag does not suprise me. I'll bet the monthly bill isn't cheap either. Still, I think it's going to be terrific, and it'll certainly be on my wish list for when it goes on sale!
I can't wait until the keynote for this Macworld Expo pops up on YouTube or Google. Looks like a lot of other cool stuff happened there too as always.

Jan. 9, 2007, 4:31 p.m.You can watch the keynote on Apple.com. Just goto the site and click on "Quicktime"...kinda jagged but cool...
I have to wait till June to get the phone? that sucks...

Jan. 9, 2007, 5:39 p.m.What is the big deal?
iPod sucks, get an XM Pionner Inno that is cool.
I just doon't get it, how many products are out there that play songs, have pictures, video and internet ? ... tons and tons and tons!
Even when I like apple designs besides that .. what is the big deal about the product ?
-

Jan. 9, 2007, 6:14 p.m.The iPhone is a huge deal! Why do you think the iPod has more than 70% of the marketshare for portable players and has a cult like following?

Jan. 9, 2007, 6:02 p.m.TampicoMX for me I like it coz in addition to the features offered by others out there, I love the slim design and icon/button positioning. Have you actually seen it? Check it here

Jan. 9, 2007, 7:54 p.m.hey mapi,
Good, I really don't have anything against the design, but the features that they "offered" mmm those are "old features" seriously even with my old cell phone I can do plenty of those all you need is memory and a computer adaptor.
Not everything that shines is gold ;) (or something like that)
Get something cool, get XM Pionner Inno ... that is cool, yes 13 bucks at month but even on a plane I got live reception :), went to Mexico and got reception, new music all the time, and I can storage information (that is comparation to iPod) - for phone features there a plenty of phones out there, - for pictures, etc even my old cell phone can storage plenty of them if I put a memory stick.
Anyway, maybe because I am a computer guy I realized there is nothing special on the iPhone ?

Jan. 10, 2007, 4:12 a.m.Get a Nokia. They have phones that are just phones and they last years years longer than other brands because they are very sturdy (have to stand up to all those heavy drinking reindeer herding Finns I guess!). I've had only three Nokias since starting to use them 12 years ago - and only one of them actually stopped working. The first one had phone/fax and I stopped using it after awhile because I no longer needed the fax part, but it still works. The second one bit the dust after 4 years but probabky only because it got dropped so many times from the rigging onto the deck! The present one has been going strong since about 2001 or 2 and shows no signs of trouble, not even the battery. I'm not a big texter either, just calling. Tip: don't get one that flips open, they don't have the shelf life of tradition models.

Jan. 9, 2007, 7:46 p.m.I like the looks of this phone. I don't like Cingular though. I guess I won't be getting one unless they offer it with a different cellular service.

Jan. 9, 2007, 8:59 p.m.soon they will come up with a device that connects directly to the part of the brain that controls sexual fantasy and the like and geeks will have a way to get laid finally.
-

Hamlet
Jan. 10, 2007, 4:17 a.m.I studied at a university with huge engineering and computer departments. I didn't notice that geeks had any trouble getting laid. Au contraire. They are generally sweet, considerate, don't get hollering drunk all the time, and are worth talking to, so they get the girls and keep 'em too.
And a lot of them were quite cute under the glasses and button-up shirts! ;-) So don't worry, be geeky.

Jan. 9, 2007, 10:17 p.m.Why Cingular, though...I HATE Cingular ! Their service is terrible where I live and their commercials are hilarious about being the company with the fewest dropped calls...Gimmee a break. I had more dropped calls with their company than anyone and the reception was incredibly bad
Why not Verizon? Much better company and reception...Since I switched, no problems...I just wish Apple would have made a deal with at least 2 or 3 companies to make it more readily available..Cool phone, but if the network sucks, I don't care how cool the phone is...

Jan. 9, 2007, 10:32 p.m.Verizon does have great voice service but they adopted an island archeitecture when it come to content so they do not acccept third party content over their wireless network. Real pain in the neck, has been a sticking point in the US wireless content business for years. I am sure that put Apple off of Verizon and I am glad for it. Cingular does have coverage issues but with the merger now approved my guess is they will be spending alot of money to upgrade. Odd man out at the party is Sprint. Could see them getting snapped up by somebody in the next 12 months.

Jan. 9, 2007, 10:28 p.m.Did anyone find it ironic that at&t the oldest stodgiest brand in the world is now aligned with Apple Inc. Hard to believe. I mean at&t is really Bell South and Southwestern Bell with the legacy long distance, local and Enterprise business from the old AT&T but for someone that has worked in telecommunications for 20 years it was bizarre. Great phone though.
-

Hamlet
Jan. 10, 2007, 4:23 a.m.Not so surprising. AT&T has often been first in the field with various services and they have the infrastructure because they invested in it. As they have aquired different companies they have also aquired innovation and new mindsets. A smart company will use that new material. AT&T also understands the meaning of good hardware. They were the first to come out with quality cordless phones - I have one that is 15 years old and still works. The other ones we have bought last on average 2 years!! We all know Apple is quality hardware as well as innovative software so combine that with huge infrastructure and the marketing clout to get it onto a huge market and you have a potential shock and awe on the market. Way to go Apple.

Jan. 9, 2007, 11:53 p.m.I have a blackberry pearl and love the integration with email, web, Yahoo IM and the ability to listen to mp3 with stereo headphones, video.
The iphone just takes it to the next level. I think this phone is going to be very successful. Maybe the key to making the smartphone ubiquitous.

Jan. 10, 2007, 2:20 a.m.Its getting time for me to upgrade from my Treo 650. This looks kind of neat. Although I have to finish paying off the laptop before the girlfind will let me blow annother $600 on a phone, or expensive toy as she would call it.

Jan. 10, 2007, 2:23 a.m."Necessity is the Mother of Invention" it has been stated and for Apple, necessity is to invent or die. Who in the hell wants to watch a video on a small screen. My take on this iPhone crap, everybody buy stock in the Eye Industry; frames, lenses, drops, exam equipment, etc. When the iPhone generation gets done watching small screen videos, their eyes are going to be shot to crap. Think Apple will pay for eye transplants....I doubt it.

Jan. 10, 2007, 2:35 a.m.Just saw the Iphone. I mean the picture of the phone on fioscentral
So what's the big Deal. Looks good, but other than a sleek look, what will iphone bring to the cell phone world that we don't have on one cell phone or the other? If you ask me my cell phone already has too much crap on it.
I own a Sony Digital camera, A Sleek Pioneer PureVision 60" Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV, One great sounding Pioneer Stereo, a customized PC with more balls than Godzilla, A Toshiba Laptop on Steroids and oh, almost forgot, a Chihuahua!
Why the Heck do I need an Iphone!
If you ask me, the New "Verizon one" Home communications center unveiled at the Vegas Electronics show makes more sense. It incorporates most of that crap on iphone and guess what? It pumps it right into your home Entertainment center! Read about it

oscillation
Jan. 10, 2007, 3:48 a.m.Well their marketing must be targeted at people like me cuz I want one and I want one now...I will probably wait though because surely there will be important upgrades such as higher speed network support, and the price will probably drop.
-

Richdys
Jan. 10, 2007, 8 a.m.Dont see the price dropping. It is probably already being sold as a loss leader to the Minimum Network Agreement and Apple makes it money either from a share of that revenue or ancillary revenue from content downloads.

Jan. 10, 2007, 4:15 a.m.I think it looks really slick... I only wish it wasn't going to be exclusive to Cingular so I could get it.

Jan. 10, 2007, 11:04 a.m." just doon't get it, how many products are out there that play songs, have pictures, video and internet ? ... tons and tons and tons!"
...and all of them clunky obtuse gadgets encrusted with teeny buttons. Why would someone buy a Ferrari when a 89 Taurus does "exactly the same thing?" For those who don't get the whole appeal of iPod or Apple products for that matter think design is only skin deep. This thing looks like a real marvel.
-

tampicoMX
Jan. 10, 2007, 11:18 a.m.Ok buy a Ferrari but then Ferrar is going to tell you when you can and cannot drive it, or well, it will tell you where you can or cannot go. (relation to iPod and iTunes and songs)
Looks cool, yeah, but they are not doing any exceptional.
Apple finally gets a phone cool, how many phones are out there with other OS ? plenty ;)
Apple just likes to flash to people and then they love it when people look like deers flashed at night .. then bam !! .. :)

iTunes actually has pretty relaxed DRM if that is your point. You can easily import your own CDs and strip the DRM from songs you buy on iTunes. You're right about the deer in the headlights thing though.
