This is an article by my personal favorite right winger: Ann Coulter. She is really on about this one. I'm posting this, because while I disagree with Coulter about virtually everything she believes, I think this Duke thing was a travesty from the word go. I have altered her title as it could be considered offensive.

Normally, I think Coulter is a nut job and she doesn't disappoint in this piece towards the end. But, she has a point about these kids being tried before the trial.
I still think she's a loon, but she's right about this.

  Yeah, I agree with most of this article (which isn't usually the case with me and her), although her attempt towards the end to link it back to 'liberals and liberal professors' doesn't make a terrible amount of sense to me.

    Well I saw one professor who was firmly convinced that the Duke Boys did it. And even today, she still believes that. Then you had the various womens groups at Duke that marched against the players after it happenned and called them names. I wonder if they will every tell the players that they are sorry for their actions?

Well, even a broken clock is right twice a day. I guess Ms. Coulter has one more coming to her, because she's been consistently wrong about pretty much everything else.
I finally agree with something Ann Coulter says. Who knew?
Maybe that asteroid is abouit to hit the Earth.

    I don't agree with her and it doesn't pain me.
    Pardon me for not wanting to elaborate on even one thing that Coulter may get right. You probably can find something about Hitler that you can agree with also; but what purpose does it serve? Our media made a place for this pariah - not me.
    Riddle: If there were 50 black women raped by white men and one white woman raped by a black man, which story would Coulter cover?

      I don't think that Coulter is right about the whole white black thing and I refuse to make this issue about race. It isn't. It is about the fact that there was a rush to judgement by an awful lot of people and now it sounds like they boys may be innocent of ANY crime.
      On the other hand, your assertion that there is some kind of racial sensationalism is true. However, Coulter is NOT a journalist. She is a talking head. Not the same thing at all. I will stop short of calling her a racist.

        I got another riddle for you and Spade. One black woman is raped by three black guys or one white woman is raped by three white guys. Which story occupies the national news for nine months? Answer: Neither.
        The simple fact is that without the racial component, this is not a national story and certainly not one that we talk about nine months later.
        The fact that these guys are white athletes whose families have SOME money makes them easy to portray as villains. Since the accuser is a black single mother is easy to portray her as a victim.
        Once the story was in the media pool, all of the usual PC rights advocates dove in without regard for guilt or innocence. Once they became heavily invested in the white boys guilt, it was incredibly hard to back peddle even when the story stopped making sense to those who had not already convicted the boys.

        I am not unsympathetic to victims of rape. I think that the punishments that are meted out come no where near the damage done by the rapists. But a false accusation is just as bad as a rape of society. Not only are the accused viewed with suspicion for the rest of their lives, but it becomes that much harder for TRUE victims of rape to be taken seriously and the fact is that this woman will NEVER have to account for her crime because the prosecutor will never bring a charge.

  I'm glad you like the article, but I want to make one thing very clear. I think Ann is a complete loon. It's just that in this one particular case I think she is saying something that is at least in part worthy of notice.

      I know that Coulter is a controversial figure. That is one reason that I chose this particular piece. Her name tends to get attention, which will make this more visible.
      I am not trying to offend anyone of color. I would be just as aggressively defending three men from Tufts who were accused, tried and convicted in the press of raping a white stripper.
      I don't consider Coulter to be a known rascist. She says things that I know many people find offensive (including me).
      Also, I'm not blaming you for anything. I chose this particular way to present this information. I'll take my lumps.

        My friend and esteemed blogger: not for one second did I even think you intended to offend anyone. "Blame" was a poor choice of wording on my part. I was just saying that we sometimes get caught in presenting a subject through the perspective of a person that confuses the issues -- the ones that we might want to focus upon.
        ON one hand if you choose to exploit her infamous reputation to attract dialogue, you must accept that some of us (myself) may prefer not to directly praise or indirectly encourage her.
        There was a time in this country (not long ago) that the media had more ethics than to bring someone like her into the lime light. Knowing her for what she represents, there are many more postive personalities that we could find stimulating without having to spread her grotesque ideology.

        Spade, you know that I respect you my friend.
        You are right. I wanted to present this subject, for two reasons. One, I think that it is important that the mediea not be so quick to rush to judgement. Two, I think that everyone has some shot at redemption and if you read this carefully, I think Ann is trying to start down a different road.
        So, I agree that her ideology is wrong. She is a poor example of the right in this country. The media should have more sense than to bring her forward. People should know better than to have bought her books. And I shouldn't have used her to stimulate dialogue in this way. In hindsight it was a poor choice. Well, not my first poor choice by a long shot and not my last either.

        I cannot believe that you let this guy bully you like that. You present a view that you agree with and you back off of it because Spade might think ill of you.
        I think the fact that many of Ann's harshest critics are so in agreement with her is a testament to just how screwed up the Duke case is. By posting this story, you did a great job of highlighting this fact. Then you turned tail and ran as soon as Spade gave you a little heat.
        Well I have news for you. A lot of people on this forum are glad that you posted this story and I hope that you keep posting things based on their content rather than your opinion of the messenger.

        However, I could have done this a little differently. So, you're right too.
        I will ALWAYS post on content rather than the messenger. The message is what is important, not who says it.

  With respect and sincerity permit me to answer your question, "why compare coulter to hitler?"
  Here is my answer. It is not with careless abandon that I made that comparison. To the contrary, it is well-thought out.
  Naziism is a variation of fascism. It is characterized by extreme nationalism, racism, totalitarianism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, and extreme anti-communism.
  Without regards to the historical results of their equally disconcerting ideologies, if Coulter and Hitler were both running for political office today, it would be on the same ticket.
  My comparison is sound and not meant to offend anyone. Viewed in that context, I hope you can understand that many of us, especially those of us who are Jewish, tend to expose these individuals as a precaution. People can be like sheep sometimes and emulate the worst of us. Contemporary history certainly supports that; don't you think?

        The National Socialist Party was a misnomer and anyone who studies history would know that. Naziism and socialism are on far opposite ends of the spectrum. There is nothing to the right of Nazism, and communism is to the left of socialism. FYI

      It always amazes me when someone defends or praises the worth of an organization strictly because of its ethnic identity. It is a simple minded form of prejudice. It is as if one would believe that anyone related to the JewishWorldReview would automatically be one particular way. Not true.
      As if all Jews are monolithic in their politics and beliefs. Within my heritage like anyone's, there are fine examples of character as well as villainous personalities too. There are Jews that hate Jews, Jews that love Jesus, Jews that are athiests, Jews that are liberals, Jews that are fascists, and Jews that blog on netscape and learn to tolerate ignorant remarks like yours.         This is your defining moment Spade. You revel in calling other people racists but the truth is there is no one on this forum more racist than you. You say that you don't want to encourage Ann even though you agree with her.
        I thought that we were supposed to praise people who did the right thing and criticize those who did wrong. That is how people in society learn from each other. The process is called dialog.
        I have read many of your posts on many subjects and for someone who protests hate, your posts are very hate filled. Yes, this is your defining moment when you show us that no matter how right someone is, unless they renounce their blasphemy of your PC doctrine, then every word from their lips is patently wrong regardless of the facts.

Yes, Ann is a controversial Figure.
However, she is again wrong when she runs around saying it is all the liberals fault. It must have been a liberal black woman, Liberal prosecuting attorney, liberal judges, in fact the whole liberal world got up that morning and helped accuese these guys. No facts, just those damn liberals.
I don't really mind Ann making a point that there was a rush to judgment in this case. Heck, listening to the newspapers I thought they were going to tar and feather the lacroose team before the week was out.
But, every time she comes up with something it always has to be those nasty liberals behind it all in a big conspiracy to take over the country and force all those white mothers who are home schooling their kids to send them into the ghetto neighborhood schools.
This is Bovine Manure at its best when she does this.

  I agree. The end of this piece starts to get back to the Coulter that we all know and don't like so much.
  I think she makes a few good points at the beginning, so I used this piece to bring out the words. So, that it could be discussed.
  Maybe I screwed up. I don't want this to become about Coulter. But, that is the risk you take.

    It just gives me the hebee-jebbee every time I read something of hers. She sometimes comes out with some good points but has to then destroy her argument by going off on a liberal rant. If she could just stick to the problem that would be great.
    As for the guys themselves, I don't think they are going to see any real justice out of this. They have been screwed over by the prosecuter trying the case in the news. It reminds me of the security guard that was accused by the FBI of being the Atlanta Olympics bomber. He had his whole life ruined because of these yahoo's stopped looking and decided he was an easy target. It was years before he even got an apology. I think these guys are going to have to stick in there as things are now starting to go their way.

  Oh, I'm not giving her too much credit. I don't think. I've said it was a load right from the beginning. But, unfortunately, I don't have a nationally syndicated radio or tv show. I don't get invited to write on any subjects and I am rarely asked to speak in public. It's sad really.
  It's just that she, in this particular case, had the stones to come out and say something. This one time, she had it right for about five, maybe six paragraphs and then the liberal thing came out again.
  Does it seem to you like she might be mellowing a bit? It does to me.

    I dont think she's mellowed,maybe is just sagging a little.The pic looks like someone shoveled makeup on herLOL!
    Abrams was right on it day after day and then suddenly his show was gone,I wondered if it was because his show was so focussed on the story and seemed a little biased at the time but turned out pretty much accurate.You could tell every time he mentioned the "victim" that he really wanted to say skank but he has a little more class than Coulter.

      Maybe she hasn't mellowed. I keep hoping. I believe that nobody is beyond redemption, even Coulter.
      I had to fix the title to the story. I was having enough trouble posting this story, without the whole 'skank' thing hanging in the title line.

Bkumm - Never apologise for using an article that has it right, no matter who wrote it. Your constant repetition of how low your opinion of Ann Coulter is makes it seem that you didn't really believe what she said had any value.
She is like the Michael Moore or Al Franken of the right. None of them are to be taken with much seriousness. They are cheerleaders to the template-thinkers.

Interesting. Whenever Ann Coulter is brought into the light among a mixed group of Americans with different views, the hatred and sparks always fly.
Everyone has their own explanation for that; and I am sure it will include the usual blame and fingerpointing.

No one has behaved well in this mess. The players, the accuser, the prosecuter, and the defense attorneys have all been trying to smear each other, using race and class to the hilt. These players are no saints, one of them was convicted of beating up homosexuals in Georgetown this summer, but the accusers charges are false accusations, too. These people deserve each other. However, this sordid and disgusting non-story should be demoted to page 75.

I agree with the premise of this article, but what's the deal with the liberal bashing tangent at the end? Somehow with her, all roads lead back to liberals. She just cannot write something unless it has some sort of bias. This is why she lacks credibility.
