If there is one thing Bush cares about more than pacifying Iraq (to get oil easier), it's protecting his legacy. With the war doomed to failure, he has used the "surge" plan as a means to defer blame onto others regardless of what the Democrats plan to do about the proposed strategy.

It's a no win situation, of course. But democrats can't be held responsible either way. All they can do is the best that they can, to fix a mess that he made.

  Thanks for the hope, Jordan, but it looks very much like at least Mockery Maker plans to hold the Democrats responsible when Bush's surgescalation fails, as it predictably will.
  When the surgescalation fails, or when a new President takes office in 2 years, or when losses mount beyond those of Vietnam, we're going to leave. So our debate NEEDS to be how to get out while limiting collateral damage as much as possible. Because there really is a lurking threat out there in Islamic Fundamentalism in their religious bigotry. And the looming failure in Iraq is not likely to make that better.

    Well we aren't really surprised, are we? It's the way CONS function. Either the American people have figured it out by now, or they haven't. Best anyone can do is lend another voice when the absurdity pops up, as you have with this thread.

I know you hate to face realities, but people die in war. We have a volunteer military. They knew the job was dangerous when they took it. We lose more people to gang war in our major cities then we lose military personnel in Iraq. Should we pull out of cities with Democrat Mayors? How about N O? Nine dead on the street in eight days. Democrats don't care about the dead, only that the President might be right, and they will once again look very stupid.

  You do understand that one main reason you are losing less people are that with the medical advances and new clotting drugs, plus better body armor, more men survive then they used to. So you may have less fatalities but you have alot more disabled coming home who need care and help for years to come. I realize this means nothing to you since you have only lost a mere 3000 young men and women, i bet 10 times that would not phase you. I am sure your troops will be glad to hear that their deaths are not bothering you one bit, you can take it.
