It is true that good knowledge in subject matter, interpersonal skills and past experience will count most at a job interview, but you can't ignore the interview etiquette, for they are the indications of your character.

Jan. 15, 2007, 1:05 p.m.I think having a personal reference is highly important. BUt before they can get to that point, you will have to make a good impression during the interview itself. You should always have a list of references on hand at interviews. Even if they don't ask for them. Being prepared is half the battle.

Jan. 15, 2007, 2:33 p.m.WEAR A TIE- Personally happened to me on my interview. Interviewer: Well, you have already beat 4 of our 6 applicants you know to wear a tie.
Number 5 and I started trianing the following monday.

Jan. 15, 2007, 3:52 p.m.I used to work at a private country club....you would be surprised at how many people came to look for a job in the fine dining restaurant looking like they just got out of bed and couldn't find a brush. Nothing to look like they actually wanted a job.

I always dressed up for my interviews, had an excellant written resume (no errors). I did have several people go over my resume first.
