While I like his books (ever read "FIELDS OF FIRE"? Great book about "Nam) I can't really respect someone who turns against his party and joins the other side. If he didn't agree with his party, fine. You don't just go join the opposing team. Something's just not quite right about that.

Something to consider, vidman. Have you considered the possibility that his party abandoned him? If the Democratic Party were to shift appreciably from it's current positions and the Republicans were a better fit, that is where I would go.

Don't you think a person should follow their beliefs and not their Party?

As a Vietnam Vetern and knowing the parallels between Iraq and Vietnam I am sure his rebuttal will be admirable. Both wars were political wars that the U.S. were bogged down in.

Both wars were not popular at home and you know what, society knew best. As a young marine I was gung ho and believed in what I was doing, but through age and acquired knowledge I now know, I was young and impressionable and incorrect in my perception.

I hear about the I.E.D.'s and even though i can't equate that with Vietnam I still remember the repeated foray's into the same villages, with the same arms fire, and the repeated same conclusion. NOTHING ACCOMPLISHED.

It's the same repeat of history in Iraq. It was a mistake and our president should swallow his pride and admit it. I readily admit my error in judgement on Vietnam, why can't Mr. Bush?
