From the article: "Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday she heard strong encouragement from Israeli and Palestinian leaders and their neighbors for quick progress toward a Middle East peace agreement. Before a session in which Rice was to update German leaders on her recent trip to the Middle East, Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Europe and others are eager to help."

  She's a fool. She and the entire right-wing have been wrong in everything they've done. The best thing that could happen is that the Isrealis and Palestinians really want to end the conflict, then the peace deal could be a reality, but not because of the administration's efforts.
  As for Iran, the administration made their huge blunder whent they refused to improve relations with Iran immediately after 9/11 and included them in their Axis of Evil. This illustrated just how clueless the right-wing is about the world of dilplomacy. As for the allegations that the Iranians are working to develop nuclear weapons, well, we talked to the Soviets throughout the Cold War and so we should talk to Iran now. The stabilization of the Middle East relies on the region entering the dialog, not in American belligerence.
  The right-wing are just plain stupid. There is no reason to leave them in control.

      So, you just hate Democrats then? All except Howdy Doodie, who is retired now I believe, are actually intelligent people and would have been far better choices as leaders than Bush. Bush did exceptionally poorly in the debates against the Dems and the right-wing had to resort to cheating through the use of a receiver.
      The right-wing may hate the Democrats but they are better. Their real problem is with the democaratic system itself: In order to get elected one must sell oneself to the lowest common denominator and because the American lowest common denominator is either ideologcal, lazy, or stupid, as attested by their election of Bush, twice, they must resort to marketing. Not a good thing. But it's politics.

        David, oh well. What can I say? The right-wing have been wrong about everything and have done nothing right. The right-wing have attacked our legal system and our constitution. The right-wing have attempted to detroy the America that is to create one that reflects their myth of what it should be. Is that unflattering? The truth may be unflattering.
        That said, don't be so ideological to think that right-wing is necessarily conservative or Republican because not all conservatives or Republicans share the right-wing worldview. They are not. So I am extremely anti-right-wing but not necessarily anti-conservative or anti-Republican. Bigotry is not always a bad thing.

        Actually you're correct with my use of absolutes. For example the administration has reversed its stance on global warming and has listed the polar bear on the Endangered Species list. But that is the administration and not the American right-wing.
        As it stands the American right-wing movement has been absolutely wrong with regards to substantive things such as global warming, the occupation in Iraq, and the "war" on terror that any minor correct actions or ideas pale in comparison.
        So, are you saying that you are not bigotted against communism? Against totalitarianism? Against despotic leaders? Against unconstitutional behavior? As I said, bigotry is not always a bad thing.

        If it's that's bigotry is not necessarily bad then it would be true because I am bigotted against a number of ideologies among them: predatory capitalism, nationalism, and militarism. From your apparent bigotry against communism, socialism, liberalism, then you and the KKK also share the same agreement with me.

        Well, now the pot is calling the kettle black is it? I have no problem with demonizing right-wingers. When they took power they were absolutely totalitarian and belligerent. Right-wingers should be marginalized so they don't create moe problems and the problems they have created can be corrected.

        Jeffery, there is nothing in my comment that says I "hate Democrats". Also, Howdy Doodie is presently on T.V. I don't spend more than 3 hours a day watching it but I'm pretty sure it's a recent production. It's called the "New Howdy Doodie".

    Sorry David but Reagan made the dissolution of the Soviet Union drag out laonger than it could have. He was lucky that Gorbachev was leader. Besides, the Pope had more to do with the break-up than Reagan.
    Bush did not try to open communications with Iran. While the Iranians had cooperated with us when we invaded Afghanistan he had the stupidity to call them part of the Axis of Evil. It was Bush who closed all doors to date and it appears that the administration is happy to keep them shut. It is the administration's ideology that is making the world a more dangerous place.

    Like Clinton did any better of a job with the peace process. Bin Laden and other Islamic extremists have stated several times that one of the reasons why they hate the US is its efforts in trying to strike a peace deal between Palestine and Isreal. Bush isn't the man for a peace deal to be made between the two, I admit. But we also have to remember that Iran funds Palestine, both econ and militarily. And Iran has stated numerous times that Isreal is an occupying force of Palestine and therefore must be eliminated by any means possible. So how do you strike a peace deal with that mindset. If you're so intelligent on Middle East foregin relations, then what should be done, Jeff? Try to leave your stupid and fool comments out, it makes you sound ignorant and unintelligent.

      Iran funds Palestine? What of Hamas and Fatah? There are many complexities that oversimplified views hide. Clinton had worked with Isreal and Palestine and Bush dropped the ball. If the story is accurate then perhaps Isreal and Palestine are ready for something to happen.

      I'm for peace and honestly hope that Condoleezza Rice succeeds in bringing peace to the Middle East. I really don't care who succeeds, as long as the end result is peace, but I'm not optimistic. What I see looks more like preparation for war than for peace. I hope I'm wrong.

      Have you ever had the weight of such kinds of decisions on your shoulders? As Secretary of State she had to advise world leaders about issues you can't even collect in your little brain. Nobody likes to think of a child's death or 500,000 of them as any kind of price to pay, but her civic responsibility to devote her life to an entirely thankless job put her in the position to HAVE to make such decisions for our country.
      Did you know that she had a miscarriage about 4 years after her twin daughters were born. Don't you think she thinks of her lost child everytime she sees another child killed in the name of war?

      Josef Korbel was Rice's professor and helped her with her PhD dissertation. He was also a true believer in democracy. He saw his own Czech democracy torn apart WWII and later by communism. His books discuss how a beautiful functioning democracy was ruined by self-serving, ignorant leaders who cared more about themselves than their country. What would he say to Rice now that she has chosen to use the knowledge he imparted about foreign politics and completely abandoned the spirit of his lessons about what good leaders and good government should be full of... diplomacy, honesty, and service to our country? He served democracy his entire life as a diplomat, father and citizen. I think Korbel would be disappointed in Rice's lack of diplomatic grace.

    What if... but they didn't do that, in an IMC controlled congress and senate, I do wonder why David. And 9/11 took years to plan supposedly. Today, we are reminded more often of the violence we have always faced from the creation of our own Frankensteins. We just always hear about it now. Don't forget the guys who get us are the ones we usually back stab. We know who these guy are, and I say it's worse if the president knows and is more up to date on current bad guys in the world. Presidents who have clout in the CIA, FBI, and NSA, and more powerful chapters are powerful and Bush is "someone", and did things to support a roller coaster of money making funnels in the government, and every off shore company, foreign and domestic in big oil, big pharma or corps that made tons last year, is either a relative, friend, acquaintance, or college of Bushy himself. I don't believe Clinton was ever so arrogant with his public and in using his powers for complete dominance of wealth.

If the Palestinians are looking for US to help solve the Israeli- Palestinian problem; it is like looking for Satan's help, Arabs are the biggest fools, if they believe the Americans to do something against the wishes of the Israelis, the Americans, and the Israelis are working hand in glove, how many times have the US used her veto power against the UN those resolution which condemned Israel, Israel is always above the law like the US, the United States is the enemy of the Muslim world, second only to Israel. America will do everything to strengthen Israel in the region, no matter what party in power, they are all the same, what a waste of time.

I've sort of noticed a cycle to this never ending saga in the middle east. Bad violence and terror for awhile, then it seems that everyone gets a little tired of all the death and destruction so there is talk of a settlement for a while, then the horror wears off and we're back to violence again. If we had just spent all the money we blew away (literally, in some cases) in this region and BOUGHT everyone there a house, a car, and their own well, there wouldn't BE a damn problem, would there? Between Bill Gates and Warren Buffet this problem could be SOLVED. Just send in a big fleet of moving vans and move everyone to somewhere nicer. It shouldn't be very hard to find someplace that would qualify. The U.S. could then BUY the entire area and turn it into vacation timeshares. And Casinos.

  yes there would.if you loook at who it is who is stirring things up as well as who is strapping on bombs its the affluent and educated.doctors, engineers,laywers,ect.these are people who could pay for anything they want over there.this isnt about money,houses ,food water ect.they belive that killing you will get them 70 virgens.that killing you will help bring the end of the world.this is a holy war for them.they want to bring about the second comming.this wont happen till the whole earth is muslim.this is what they belive.the reason why it settles down for a while is so they can rearm and rebuild in order to attack.this is what diplomicy is to them.its to buy a little time to allow their plans to come to a boil.dont get me wrong they would take the money and settle down for a while.. till they spent it on more bullets and bigger bombs

    I don't think you would find that the majority of suicide bombers are professionals. I'm thinking they are mostly ignorant, impressionable types. No matter WHO is organizing and running things, if you don't have cannon fodder you don't have a war. If everyone HAD a good -- or at least a better -- life, they would no longer be WILLING to blow themselves up. Or at any rate, far fewer would be. I guarantee it. In fact, if the "commoners" all had a reasonably good situation, the rabble-rousers might look around and think "wait a second, rousing the rabble is only going to make things WORSE, for them AND for me. Nevermind." That's why (one reason anyway) you don't see a whole lot of people here strapping on a C4 vest.

      you dont understand.you are looking thru western eyes.this life wether good or bad dosent matter.the only improvment would be the total conversion to islam of the entire world. they are trying to bring about the second comming.and the only way that happnes is when there are no non muslims in the world. this is something that may be difficult for most to get their head around but they belive.and making things worse for them is what they want so they can blame it on someone else(namely us)and you dont see people here strapping on c4 vests because there they embrace death.unlike here where we make heros out of those that for the most part save lives there the heros are those that kill the most.this is something that is ingrained in their culture.its not a matter of being WILLING to have themselves blown up.they WANT to have themselves blown up for the glory of allah.as for the proffessional types your right sort of,they are running out of pros and sending in the second string now

This may be another example of good news, but.. I only see Rice saying its been fruitful. Progress is just keeping people from killing each other over there. I think other administrations have done a much better job of that. As for this I will wait for concrete results, not just her say so.

  I seem to remember something she DIDN'T do. Says she didn't remember reading that aeroplane and highjack memo. Not sure but i think, at the time, that was kinda her job
