Jan. 21, 2007, 1:48 p.m.This seems to be a natural 'next step' in the evolution of Wikipedia. Even though the presently existing Wikipedia articles will not be 'broadsided' into the Citizendium data base they (Wikipedia articles) surely can be consulted during the drafting of new/updated articles.
This new 'Citizendium' approach will eliminate the often frustrating consequence of having anonymous 'authors' edit or vandalize articles in a non-academic and biased fashion. It will also prohibit 'authors' who have an agenda other than the creation of objective and encyclopedic content.
Never-the-less, many Wikipedia articles that have been deemed to be excellent and complete should be incorporated into the Citizendium database. These 'excellent articles' will not require extensive editing and can be preserved.
Bottom line: Let's not throw out the baby with the bath water. Many of Wikipedia's articles can be included, intact, in Citizendium. This salvaging approach will save much redundancy.
