Jan. 21, 2007, 2:08 p.m.All I can say is I hope we learned our lesson with Castro. This is all a repeat of what happened in Cuba. We need to take him out, and take him out now.
-

Jan. 21, 2007, 5:22 p.m.LOL...I hope you we have learned the lesson of Iraq. We took out Saddam and stayed for oil and four years later we are still in a state of FUBAR.
Don't like CITGO, buy Valero it is from our good neighbors Mexico. Who send illegals, drugs, terrorist, accross the border everyday and siphon dollars out of our economy and back to their corrupt fake electoral process. Hugo is not a threat to us compared to Mexico.

Jan. 21, 2007, 5:46 p.m.if we "take him out", as you say, this will be a repeat of Allende in Chile and we will add Venezuela to the list of countries we turned into instant enemies.

Jan. 21, 2007, 6:19 p.m.Chavez is right. The American government is interfering with his own and it has no right to. As Nospindave put it, he is just like Castro and we will sadly enough, "take him out." If we look at this in retrospective, maybe socialism isn't bad. Maybe we are harming these other countries just as much as their leaders supposedly are.We are brainwashed as Americans to think this "commie" has to be bad and everything in politics is either "bad" or "good." I've read numerous interviews with him and articles about him. He has some great ideas. His view on the army as a tool for social improvement is so much different than ours. Also, high taxes on oil companies is the antithesis of the United States' ideals because we are ruled by corporations, intertwined with the media and government(why would that ever be a positive thing?).Take a step back and realize that not only is this a different country, but dissimilar society and economy as well

Jan. 21, 2007, 7:05 p.m.I get the feeling Chavez is baiting America, just *hoping* we do something to Venezuela. Why give him the satisfaction?

Jan. 21, 2007, 7:59 p.m.Two questions:
1)Take him out with what? Because of Bush's misunderestimating our involvement in Iraq our military is but a shell of its former self - ie we simply haven't got the troops!
2) How can you say that what he is doing is any different than Bush's signing statements or desire of the power of the line item veto ( especially when that was declared unconstitutional back in 1998 by the USSC!)

Jan. 21, 2007, 8:34 p.m.Until we get rid of our own rogue President, we are unable to set an example to other nations. And the last thing we need is to force our will on another nation. Illegal acts or not, he was elected. Our own President has committed lot of illegal and unlawful acts, and has little respect for law.

Jan. 21, 2007, 9:40 p.m.What do you mean?
If it is what I think your saying, well that is a "terrorist" statement if I ever heard one.
Yes, do solve a problem with international terrorism because he speaks out, cares for his people and country. Is he so wrong to be "taken out"? What hypocrisy!
He has the authority of his own people to run the Venezuelan government in the best interest of his people. Now, if our government would stand up for our people in such a manner!
He has been labled ever since he call Bush "El Diablo" on the floor of the UN - and rightfully so. The US has no business in Venezuelan affairs and need to keep to our own.

Jan. 22, 2007, 10:26 a.m.What lesson from Cuba? Cuba hasn't been a threat to us since the missile crisis. And in that they were just a pawn to one of the super powers. Why should we care if Chavez nationalizes his oil? It will still flow. Why should we care if he changes the structure of his national bank? The currency will still convert to dollars.
Just remember that the interests of American oil and other trans-national corporatons are not necessarily those of the American people.

Jan. 22, 2007, 1:34 p.m."Take him our" What the hell are you talking about...and what has Castro done to the US? These countries don't really matter to us in the grand schema of things. Our only hang up is that they are speaking ill of the U.S. A country that affords its entire citizen the right to free speech should extend that to the world. If Chavez posed a treat to us in anyway I would be the first to say take him out. However, we just can't go about killing off leaders of other countries because they don't feel the same way we do about things in this world, even when they say negative things about us. Do you really think we are with out blame or fault? He is a socialist we are not and China is communist and yet I don't hear anyone calling for their heads, I would think they poses more of a treat to us than Hugo. what will he do toss rocks at us?

Jan. 21, 2007, 2:13 p.m.The smart thing to do would to offer him our help, offer the hand of friendship. And act all buddy-buddy with him. Then he'll lose popularity and be voted out.

Jan. 21, 2007, 2:23 p.m.Did he say Gringos go to hell, or "Bushos Go to Hell"? If that comment was for the Bush Government, then he is fully entitled to his opinion.

Jan. 21, 2007, 8:46 p.m.No he pretty much used a racist slur against all white people. Hell, I guess racism is ok as long as its directed at white people.

Jan. 21, 2007, 9:08 p.m.No he didn't say gringos or Bushos he said wackos. And that doesn't take in the Bush administration. It takes in the wackos on this forum.

Jan. 21, 2007, 8:48 p.m.Last time I checked American presidents dont have to jail people that dont share their political views. They dont have to steal land from people that dont share their political views, and they dont have to jail and kill people in the media that dont share their political views.
Yea, a man of the people!!

Jan. 21, 2007, 3:10 p.m.I honestly can't blame this guy for what he says. He is a PRESIDENT in a DEMOCRACY that has been elected overwhelmingly by his people. In the US we demonize this man only because he control's 11% of our oil imports and he can see through our intentions. His country has full rights for women, socialized health care, and almost all of the same rights of our own country. All of this has been instituted since he became president in 1999. YET, our media tries to convince us that he's a brutal dictator, and an animal. IE Pat Robertson's rediculous call for his assasination. He has stated many times that he has no problem with the American people, but he hates GW Bush.
-

sithlordO2
Jan. 21, 2007, 4:51 p.m.Our policy is to overthrow any govenment that doesn't support us. How democratic is that? Chavez has said nothing negative about the American people. He just doesn't like Bush.
-

anarchy
Jan. 21, 2007, 8:10 p.m.We should sent Pat Robertson over there. He could crush him with his 2000lb leg press. Then replace the oil economy with his protein shakes.

Jan. 21, 2007, 8:51 p.m.I guess all those indians who reportedly vote 25 times each (Chavez controlls the whole process which is widly known to be a farce at this point) basically at gun point for Chavez do make it pretty easy to win thos "democratic" elections. PUUUUULEASE!!!!

Jan. 21, 2007, 10:57 p.m.Wow, this is really starting to annoy me. Fascism is a far RIGHT ideology. It is extremely conservative, placing the nation above all else. Fascism is at the exact opposite end of the political spectrum as communism. Fascists are not socialists. Extreme liberals are usually identified with socialism while extreme conservatives are usually identified with fascism.

Jan. 22, 2007, 3:01 p.m.To: Ike5266- "But liberals loved Hitler." How could you say something like this and expect anyone in their right mind would listen to anything you have to say? This and Liberals love the terrorist as if the terrorist say ok let's not kill them good libs today. It's out and out stupid to make a statement like this...if a thought like this should enter my head about any faction of America I would have myself checked by a shrink ( I am not trying to tell you what to do but I would...). The terrorist didn't only kill GOPers or DEMS on 9/11 you ass they killed Americans!

Jan. 22, 2007, 5:33 a.m.Well, I was with you on the previous post, but here we part company. A good number of the Cuban people who came here when Castro overthrew Batista were far from being the cream of anybody's crop. They were crony capitalist criminals who had been ripping off their countrymen with the US help for decades. They came here with their ill-gotten gains and have sat here in south Florida, mucking up our internal politics and the foreign policy of wimpy butt-kissing republicans, carping and whining because they could not figure out how to get the last dregs of their stolen loot out of Cuba when they hauled ass with their tails between their legs. Productive, my Aunt Fanny.
And oh, by the way? The Cuban Missile Crisis was probably the dumbest thing a Democrat had done this century until Johnson escalated Vietnam. It was irresponsible, cowboy crap for no good reason.

Jan. 21, 2007, 3:29 p.m.Who needs to buy Venezuela? Once your oil is all drilled, and your economy is destroyed, just like Castro ruined Cuba, you will coming begging for help from the West, just like every other failed socialist economy. Point out one country in the history of this planet where a socialist economy did not collapse and leave it's people starving. Chavez can spew all the crap he wants, we still have the best economy and standard of living in the world.
-
-
-

inaroundabout
Jan. 21, 2007, 11:03 p.m.It doesn't really mean anything to "point our one country in the history of this planet where a socialist economy did not collapse and leave it's people starving" because other than nations currently established there are no countries in the history that haven't collapsed, regardless of their social system. All that's left is to compare current countries so I'd have to go with China, they may not be as well off as us but they are far from collapsing and leaving their people starving.

Jan. 21, 2007, 3:39 p.m.wow, some of these posts are disturbing, it is ok if he threatnes the Bush's just not the us people, hmmm whats going to be the difference with the next administration are we suddenly going to buddies with him. What he is doing is taking away the freedoms of the people of venezuela, anyone who owns what he wants he isgoing to take, like eminent domain, or more like a dictator, can't you all see this, is this what you want for our country, just elect hillary, she will socialize this country so fast you will have no rights left. Go lefties.

Jan. 21, 2007, 4:14 p.m.Ol Chavez got him self quite an empire, so i bet hes gonna, run things, to his advantage for quite awhile., the us will just let him get by with whatever he wants , heckfire all them people need is some beans and peppers to exist, the rich get richer and poor will get poorer. He can charge whatever he wants for oil, we will pay., the tree huggers dont want us to drill our own oil, for fear of getting something dirty. What a bunch of Bull Sh.t.

beantown4776
Jan. 21, 2007, 4:14 p.m.These "it's perfectly ok if he's directing it at Bush" posts seem to convey that Chavez is for The People (TM) (even though his thugs have routinely murdered and intimidate opponents of his regime, and that the elections which brought him to power were just as rigged and unfair as they believe the 2000 election was). I'm hugely disappointed, too, that George had no foresight of the Iraq post-war and has fundled it so badly by refusing to listen to informed voices, but can't people leave their pithy anti-Bush quips alone for at least one second and see the problem with Chavez and his comments? Of course, any world leader who voices opposition to Bush is temporarily exonerated of his crimes or faults.
-

vidman04
Jan. 21, 2007, 8:17 p.m.No, they can't stop their anti-Bush quips because it makes them feel superior. They blame Bush for the death of the dinosaurs, the fall of the Roman Empire and the disappearance of the Mayans. Why wouldn't they comment on a story NOT ABOUT BUSH! and blame him?
-

Jan. 21, 2007, 11:11 p.m.I have to kind of agree with beantown. I can't stand Bush and as a US citizen I believe I am well within my rights to express how I feel about one of my employees. Bush is not, however, one of Chavez's employees, he's his peer as a world leader and thus should be treated with respect even when they disagree. Bush should follow the same rules though and not label countries as members of the "axis of evil".

Jan. 21, 2007, 4:51 p.m.I read someone said he is president in a democracy, if anyone thinks that he is running a democracy then they should move to Venezuela and try to open a a company, then when it does well he can step in and claim ownership of 51% and take it from you, yeah thats a great place, and Saddam was elected too. Come on P Diddy Bring out the Vote for Hugo, go baby

Jan. 21, 2007, 5:26 p.m.Don kid yourself, we would be his best friend if he wasn't taxing the oil companies. Just like those "fledgling" Democracies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia back in 1991 that today are still in the "fledgling" state...LOL

Jan. 21, 2007, 4:55 p.m.AND I THOUGHT BUSH WAS CONTROVERSIAL. I would rather suffer under a dillusional president concerning America supremecy on world affairs than suffering under a dillusional president of Venzuela who will usurp laws and change Democratic laws for the enhancement of his continued ruling over the masses. For someone to claim other presidents are despotic, i think he needs to look in a mirror to find the despotic leader.
His oil will run out eventually and when he comes to this despotic country with hat in hand begging for alms we Americans will know how to proceed.

Jan. 21, 2007, 9:30 p.m.And how do you suppose GW's election was rigged when you know how many controls that are in place on elections. The news media would have had this on every front page newspaper in the country and would still be hollering about it. The only ones that thinks a dumb thing like that, are those that think dumb things.

Jan. 21, 2007, 6:37 p.m.Responsable world leader... How laughable, I would rather have a guy who uses words to enflict his message than a brain-dead president who uses bombs to covey messages of "Freedom." And having a moron from his same political party and ideology with the same "Jesus told me to do so" attitude like Pat Robertson call for his assasination. And then not condeming it. Thats healthy/responsable leadership.

But if only it was that easy....
Come on guys!!! You claim you have 100 million on your side, what do you mean you can't MAKE the government do something about BUSH if you TRULY think he's done something worth being Impeached, such as pulling off 9/11. Quit jawing like an old ladies canasta club and do something about it. Hell if you can get one in a hundred to march, that number alone will make DC quake in their boots. But you know I think you are all talk, and just like the sound of your own voices. Butch up do something or leave it go!
