Lots of people could see this before it happened. If we could do it why couldn't they?

"Lawrence Wilkerson went on to express dismay at how little resistance the Congress has offered the Bush Administration. He suggested that Congressional leaders should have brought in every major general to testify as to the facts on the ground."

"Instead, the Republicans sought to more or less cover for the president and vice president, and in my mind, that's unconscionable. I'm a Republican and that makes me mad. My party is not the party that I became a member of many years ago. The Congress as a whole should have been exercising its oversight."

        Amen, brother!

As a nation, we now need to hear much more of this. We are conditioned to believe our president, believe our vice president, believe the leaders in the Pentagon. Vietnam rattled that faith, but a generation later it has returned.

It is time to realize once more. These are just people. They are just as capable of lying to you as are used car salesmen. And they are just as prone to that fault. Test and parse through everything they say.

Tonight, the President "told" you we are going to eliminate the deficit in 5 years. That's good. But is he going to be the person in charge then? No.

He said we would do that without any new taxes, but rather by cutting spending. That's good. But did he mention what spending to cut? No.

Did he list tons of things like health care, renewable energy, a reserve corps, a huge increase in military forces, etc. that all require additional spending? Yes.

If you listen to the President, you are listening to a used car salesman.

            Here you go Ani-

There can be no peace if our security depends on the will and whims of a ruthless and aggressive dictator. I'm not willing to stake one American life on trusting Saddam Hussein.

            --George W. Bush

We actually misnamed the war on terror, it ought to be the 'struggle against ideological extremists who do not believe in free societies who happen to use terror as a weapon to try to shake the conscience of the free world.'

            --George W. Bush Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004

"We ended the rule of one of history's worst tyrants, and in so doing, we not only freed the American people, we made our own people more secure."

-George W. Bush, Crawford, Texas, May 3, 2003

PUHLEASE!!!! Saddam barely had the military expertise to take over a push over nation like Kuwait and now all of sudden he has the capability to even think he can attack the U.S. Loooong sigh, more spoon fed drivel than looking back at history and seeing the lies you've been told.

You know all this drivel about this and that...put yourself in our soldiers shoes. It is different when it's your own pretty baby. If you want a fight then jump in. They need good decent angry people to fight angry people. Unless you are willing to sacrifice your own pitiful life for "the cause" you really should butt out. War sucks! It never works to solve anything but breed a bloodline of hate filled vengence minded people. Who here remembers Viet Nam? I do, lost a lot of friends. For what?

Exactly my point... what was our point in even going to war??? I have relatives and friends who either grew up in or went to Vietnam and the one's who went still won't really talk about it so I can only imagine what they went through. The point I'm making is War really never works out unless we're truly defending ourselves. I really don't think we were defending the US just OIL.

blame bushAdmin., but blame the american mainstream press who abdicated their historical role as watchdog of gov't. and became corporate / gov't. cheerleaders for this brutal fabricated war. they failed us as much as bush did. do not ever forget! peace.

With no intent to show rudeness or bad manners to anyone here; with no thought that it is profitable to discuss 'why' we are in a situation in which we never should have been; I am forced to re-raise a question that has actually never been put let alone answered. We are all familiar with 'stay the course,'prevailing,' 'succeeding' and/or "achieving victory' in Irag, however if we can depart from using propaganda tools... what exactly constitutes the successful 'running of that course,' 'success' or 'victory' in Iraq?

No one has promulgated a realistic forecast of how people torn by hatred and religious enmity of their fellow citizens, a centuries-old tradition of non-democratic thought and a resentment towards the west of such epic proportions as to not even be describable are going to welded into a 'success.'

Not now, not ever. And yet, no one asks..what do we get out of this on the positive side?

I agree re: in it for oil, mainstream media (big time) maybe i'm in outer space on this one, but how does rumsfeld escape from this mess? ".......tailored information, then presented to the president"? while i am not surprised the smarmy little vermin did such a thing, it just baffles me that his actions are not actual crimes.

ET - if enough people pull themselves away from american idol and their game boys, maybe we can do some rattling and actually hold our ELECTED officials ACCOUNTABLE. NO MORE LIES AND COVERUPS. just a simple request, thank you.

Exactly. A country generally gets the government and the media they deserve or at least let happen. If we come to the polls at all in this country we vote based on likability, we vote for someone who is "one of us" or vote for someone who is charming or who goes to the same church. No one wants to attend much less read about budget meetings where millions of dollars are at stake, or doubt the reasons we are going to war but cut down a lightning ravaged oak tree that Sam Houston once peed on and brother watch out.

If you want this mess to end stop voting for corrupt idealogues who tell you what you want to hear...

I've seen excellent coverage on this war that fell out of the news cycle after one week or one day...

and stop worrying about so called test issues that have nothing to do with running a country...

So, we are at war but we are closing military bases down. We are spread so thin. Layoffs everywhere. Let's just watch some T.V. and worry about later. Well,"later" has come and gone.We need cohesiveness. We are a house divided. Perhaps we should bring them all back and set up a "perimiter". There are ample resources close buy,but EVERYBODY needs to tighten there belt. How many are willing to sacrifice a little materiality. The capitalistic model for a free economy is not working anymore.Take a look around.

I'm looking forward to seeing this...sounds similar to the documentary PBS is working on (I think its called America at a Crossroads). I know they have various opposing opinions on the war planned in that (including Richard Perle)
