Oh boy. Another dictator in our midst. Some fat, arrogant windbag who can't handle power. Don't we have enough dictators in the world? What are those Venezuelan idiots thinking?

No, he has not been made "dictator for life." Unless he lives 18 months or less. There is a time limit imposed on his extended authority.

Anyone who wants to be a dictator of anything should automatically have their sanity questioned. That includes all presidential candidates here, by the way. I have trouble controlling my own life, I certainly don't want to be bothered with trying to control the lives of a whole bunch of other people.

The only thing that makes Chavez anything but a joke is his ability to control some oil. As long as he is using that oil to do something for the people in his country we should just let him spout off and ignore the rest. If at some point he becomes dangerous to the Caribean area there is plenty of ways to deal with him. All we've done so far is make him seem more important than he is.

I think if you read into the article, it makes some good points (like slapping the rich with more taxes, and in turn, spreading the wealth). His tactics with oil will be enough to keep the rest of the world watching, and hopefully we won't be stupid enough to allow him to go as far as Saddam went in his lifetime.

If you want to voice your displeasure at Commandante Chavez, and want to pull a few pieces of wood out of his bonfire, just DON"T BUY ANY CITGO GAS OR OTHER CITGO PRODUCT!

Recently, Seven-Eleven stores/stations stopped buying CITGO gas, and we could all do the same......

Citgo is TOTALLY OWNED by the Venezuelan government.

All of our efforts to stop him so far have done nothing but help him. Maybe we should just for once mind our own business.

Maybe we haven't learned our lesson of not getting our noses in other countries business! The US and CIA have the inverted Midas touch, whatever we touch we screw up! Cuba, Chile, Iran, Iraq, Nicaragua,,etc...)

BZZT! Wrong answer. Chavez did not give himself the powers in question, the Venezuelan legislature did. And not for life, but for a limited 18 month time period.

And why can't I bash Bush? Why not? He has demonstrated ad nauseum that he is a witless buffon who could LITERALLY not have found his way to the White House under his own power. I doubt he could find Washington, DC on a map.

I disagree with Chavez in this regard- Chavez implied that Bush is the Devil. I say the Devil has ruled successfully ruled Hell for ages, Bush has screwed the US up utterly in less than six years. It is the Devil who is defamed by the comparison.

Many a good post here. Bush desiring Chavez's power, excellent comparison. One problem though, He has that power now with our current representatives in office.

Just what we need, another (#$#$) communist dictator for life. If anyone cannot see the handwriting on the wall here, you're still using crayons for your writing instruments. You don't have to look at Chavez very long to realize that if he isn't the devil he's one of his demons. Cubans all love Castro? Venzualians all will love or love Chavez? Love him or die!

Well if chavez would flood the USA market with cheap oil, we would all love him.PR is what he dont understand.

Omg, take the freakin blinders off. Comparing Bush to Chavez is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Chavez is following right in Fidels footsteps. He is throwing a few bread crumbs to his nations poor so they will follow him and grant him full power. The sad part is that he holds a pretty solid hand when it comes to our nations oil supply.

Ah screw it...maybe we will all be happier when we are breaking up our nations highways with hammers so we don't have to climb them to walk to our next job.

I can't take the level of stupidity here, lets for one minute stop hating Bush, just for a secon. We are watching the birth of a communistic totalitarian society, in this country your allowed to say I hate Bush, over there you would be sent to jail. The NY Times would not exist they would be prisoned for crimes against the state. This is the begining, soon land ownership, business ownership, any personaly held items will become property of the state, the State of Chavez. Think of the people of this country who are no longer free.

Chavez is just another tinhorn banana republic dictator. If he didn't have the oil and our technology and our $$$ coming in, nobody would care about him or his rude arrogance. Without oil and his dictatorship he would likely be a drug lord.

"By the way, I have always liked bush."

                                  Imagine my surprise.

I note that bush is not capitalized; are you discussing our president or your affinity for pubic thatch?
