Feb. 1, 2007, 9:50 a.m.This has to be one of the easiest articles to write. All they have to do is change the numbers and dates from last year's article.

Feb. 1, 2007, 10:53 a.m.Well, as much as I hate to admit it, this is why I have invested some money in oil company stocks.

Feb. 1, 2007, 11:54 a.m.Of course their profits are huge. Just look at how many of
us make unnecessary trips in out SUVs. If you look at the
history of the oil industry you will realize they are the
most dishonest of industries.

Feb. 1, 2007, 12:48 p.m.And yet, despite the incredible profits, they continue to lie to their consumers every time they want to raise the price. They make up lame excuses at the start of every summer to justify an unnecessary price hike, and we all buy it because we wont give up our precious cars.
This industry needs to be controlled or regulated or something, but that will never happen because they have all the money, ane the ones with the money make the rules.

Feb. 1, 2007, 2:23 p.m.How much profit is too much? Who benefits from this huge windfall, certainly not the customers. It will be the corporate executives who will benefit with nice obscene bonuses. I hate to have the govenment stick their nose into this, however, do you think these executives will do anything about it? No,they are already having meetings to determine how they can increase these numbers!

Feb. 1, 2007, 2:49 p.m.Read the article! It says profit (I'm assuming gross) is at an all time high. All that means is mine/ your consumption of oil etc. is at an all time high. Prices are skyrocketing, yes! So of course the amount of dollars in profit is increasing as well. Nowhere does it say that as a percentage of revenue the profit has increased. I would however expect it to. As anyone knows, volume allows for generation of efficiency. This is a tried and true axiom of manufacturing. If you don't want them to make the huge profit, park your car.

Feb. 1, 2007, 3:35 p.m.I don't see any complaints about them paying 100 billion in taxes to the federal government. Like it or not the feds are the ones raking in the cash. I don't think a 10.4% profit margin is excessive. Remember profit margin!!!!!

Feb. 1, 2007, 4:06 p.m.That's what happens when industry writes policy and legislation.
And forrest gump americans voted for bush because he was an oil man and thought that would be helpful to us commoners.
If you get up to an alarm clock voting republicon is against your interests.

Feb. 1, 2007, 5:07 p.m.And to think Exxon, is as an individual, is possibly the world's largest contributor to global warming with its' Co2 emissions.
And all the US media talks about is profits.
Ever heard of electric cars or smaller cars, rather than the All American guzzler SUV?

Feb. 1, 2007, 5:09 p.m.Far be it from me
these profits to mock
after all
isn't this why we're in Iraq?
Reflagging those Iraqi tankers
as if they were Saudi
emboldens bankers!
Let's make sure that oil stays stolen
and our oil-injected veins stay swollen!
Who care if our soldiers have to die
who cares if the President has to lie?
Who cares who complains or who sees
and long as we can fill up our SUV's?
We're addicted to oil
just like any other junkie
we don't care if our dealer
walks and talks like a monkey!

Feb. 1, 2007, 5:19 p.m.The solution - I have no qualms with the profits. With our present greenhouse effect on global climate, I think the government should mandate a portion of profits allocated towards energy conservation by all oil companies and its subsideries.

Feb. 1, 2007, 5:42 p.m.Most people in the United States are too image conscience to drive such a small car.
You might be surprised as to how much of the general population will go for something that makes no sense just for image value.
Not only that, but with the drivers of SUV's making poor decisions on the road because they feel they're "safer" wouldn't spell out a good future for a car like this.
-

hamy
Feb. 2, 2007, 6:43 p.m.No. What is happening is that the oil companies in the US have a very strong lobby organization that prevents these cars from being marketed in the US. Even our hybrid cars don't get as good gas mileage as some cars that are marketed in other countries. It is the same reason that years ago, you could buy an all electric car and now you can't.

Feb. 1, 2007, 6 p.m.All gas companies make a huge profit, but Exxon-Mobil is the greediest of all. As of today, I am boycotting Exxon-Mobil. It will have no effecr on E-M, but I will feel better about myself to not contribute to their greed.

Wonder how they did that with everything so high and corn prices are rising because of Ethanol additive for Gasoline ?
