On Jan. 25, Larue Washington showed her Ridglea Hills Elementary class clips from the 1997 Steven Spielberg film depicting slaves en route to the Americas, including a scene in which a character was stabbed, district officials said.

It is an excellent film, one that I would recommend to students in high school, not fifth grade.

One of the best movies I've seen. Very informative, and educational. I wonder how many of those kids will be seeing parts of the news, and Walker Texas Ranger, and Victoria Secret, and Coors Light commercials.

It sure is good that we're shielding them from all that nasty history and stuff.

I have never seen this film but I remember growing up and seeing "Roots" in about 5-6th grade.. we watched the scene with the man dying from a cannon ball shot! It made me very sad... but I survived!! Compared to what is shown on afternoon tv nowadays.. I am sure these kids will be ok!!

I agree with the book statements too.... whatever happened to reading?? I love reading.. and so does my daughter.. we encourage her every day to pick up a book or two and flip through the pics (she's only 3) and she loves to be read to..

Political correctness at its moronic extreme.
