Feb. 7, 2007, 3:58 a.m.Well now that I know that GLAAD has it's panties in a bunch about this commercial, I think I'll side with Snickers.
I like European T.V. where they can use nudity to sell anything instead of trying to be clever. lol

Feb. 7, 2007, 6:19 a.m.Star, living in Costa rica and Colombia the past 5 1/2 years, I have noticed the retrictions placed on commercials, etc. are much less. Obviously some o the spots are quite funny, some are not but they treat the consumers like adults. I have never seen anything really offensive, either,
I thought the premise of the ad was funny; their embarassment only after they finished the Snickers and found themselves kissing.

Feb. 7, 2007, 9:27 a.m.Another distraction from REAL issues plaguing us. Yup. Keep the focus on a joke story that actually makes fun of straight white men (not gays) and not on things like the war, hunger, so many billion in cash lost in iraq, etc. This ad is not about attacking gays. This ad plays off of the silly (but true) idea that white men will avoid anything even remotely gay and do what they can to prove their manhood and straightness. It has nothing to do with bashing gays, but mocking homophobia. Unfortunately, pro-gay groups can't get out of their own way-by protesting about this ad, they align themselves very closely with the conservative neo-nazi groups that they say they hate.
Ultimately, this ad did what it was supposed to, which is raise Snickers' awareness in the minds of potential consumers.

Feb. 7, 2007, 10:23 a.m.This is just another example of our society losing it's sense of Humor. We seem to be just a little too pc. It was a joke. What happened to freedom of speech? I, for one am sick and tired of groups saying they don't get any respect or they are being dissed by this organization or that person. I am an Irish-American. I am proud of my heritage. We faced the discrimination of being immigrants to this great nation and overcame it. Every March 17th we are inudated with commmercials about little green men and drunk supposed "Irishmen", should we be offended? According to today's standard, yes. That is the most asinine thing I have ever heard of. Get off your high horse and get over yourself.

Feb. 7, 2007, 10:58 a.m.But...but.... all the "tolerance" from these gay groups towards this ad? Isn't this what we're being told ad nauseum from them and all their "useful mediots"? They don't mind inundating our media, entertainment and schools with their agenda but when the tables turn a little they go bonkers.......how interesting.

Feb. 7, 2007, 11:20 a.m.I'm offended that a small group of people could "force" Snickes to pull the commercial. I'm offended that the humor (or at least some thought it was funny) was not accepted by some so the "entertainment" is now censored.
Personally I thought it was a stupid commerical that did nothing for me desire for their product. But that a small group could force this to be pulled bothers me.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:10 p.m.ROFLMAO...are you serious?
Ok you caught us, the gay men of America hijacked the commercial, and installed a subliminal message to convert all men! It is part of our master plan to rule the world!
Ford and Chevy? They kowtow to gays? Please, no one kowtows to gays; we are only 10% of the population, why would anyone market to us, and ignore the other 90%!
As for heterosexuals being "superior" to homosexuals...I think that your own comments speak volumes to that. Do a google search for famous gays sometime, and educate yourself my friend.

Feb. 7, 2007, 11:26 a.m.I love how this "movement" to get the commerical pulles tries to make normal heterosexual males feel guilty for being born normal with normal heterosexual thoughts. Thats what makes me so P.O.ed about the whole thing.
You wanna be gay, be gay, i dont care, as long as you not physically touching me I have no problems on what you do, go get married for all I care. But when I see some whiney homoesexual posting lengthy blogs, op-eds etc on websites about how we as a country should be ashamed I get just a little ticked.

Feb. 7, 2007, 11:28 a.m.I'm sorry, but I for one am getting a little tired of the minority controlling our everyday lives. We can't even say Merrry Christmas to someone during the holidays, in fear that it might upset someone who doesn't have christian values. (The U.S. is 85% christian). Now we have to pull commercials because a small group thought it was offensive, GET OVER IT!! You are no more important than anyone else so stop acting like it!

Feb. 7, 2007, 11:36 a.m.I didn't feel the commercial had a gay agenda. It was two guys caught in an embarrassing moment. The "kiss" didn't bother me because it was an accident. What gave me the heebie jeebies was the chest hair pulling. OUCH OUCH OUCH

Unashamed
Feb. 7, 2007, 11:39 a.m.I actually expected to read the article and find Christian groups protesting the commercial showing two men kissing. Then I realized that couldn't be. No company would pull an ad just because it offended Christians.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:16 p.m.I laughed when I saw it and then immediately forgot about it. But then again I`m a hetero.
Only a closet homosexual/republican would bother to publicly whine and rant about that commercial.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:18 p.m.I thought the ad was stupid and unoriginal. don't need to see two guys doing the lady and the tramp spaghetti routine, and the do something manly ripping out of chest hair? how is that manly? not an effective commercial. how bout them looking at each other sheepishly and saying hey man, it was a snickers bar, stuff happens...naw that's not a good commercial either.
worst commercial of all-time? 'I'm not a doctor, but I play one on tv...' I know someone lost their job over that one.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:28 p.m.Hell, I'm sending Snickers bars to my straight male friends for Valentines Day! They'll think it is absolutely hilarious! They are secure enough in their masculinity to take a joke. After Broke Back Mountain came out we had a blast making jokes with it. Believe it or not gay, and straight men can get along just fine enjoying a joke as a joke...and a comercial as a comercial.
Besides, had it been two women in the commercial straight men would be recording the commercial on dvd.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:43 p.m.The only people that had a problem was the gay and lebians. They must ashamed of what they are.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:46 p.m.It wasn't gays who were offended, it was us heteros.
If one of those "guys" had been a good-looking woman, nobody would be able to stock enough Snickers -- especially repair shops.
This commercial was disgusting to heteros, especially those of us watching with our kids. This was tasteless and pointless.
Watch Snickers sales plummet in the near-term.

Feb. 7, 2007, 12:47 p.m."Masterfoods, which has discontinued the ad campaign, said the intent of the ad was not to offend, and noted that feedback from its target audience had been positive."
Now that makes me wonder just who they were targeting.

Feb. 7, 2007, 1:03 p.m.I think it was funny to see the tables turned. I wonder why it is that men have a problem with 2 men kissing but not 2 women? Maybe they have a problem with their own masculinity. What happened to having a sense of humour. It is comedy not a gay/straight issue. I thought it was better than some of the stupid ones that make no sense like Go Daddy. How did that one ever make it? Many of their adds were so risque that they were banned. I am amazed at what is acceptable on television today.

Feb. 7, 2007, 1:19 p.m.It was a stupid ad anyway. I hope the makers of Snickers
didn't pay anyone for that ad.
what a waste!
