Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 10 months ago

The government on Wednesday approved over-the-counter sales of the fat-blocking diet pill orlistat, allowing direct sales for the first time of a version of a diet drug that had been available only by prescription. Currently available by prescription as Xenical, the capsules will now be sold in a lower, nonprescription dose under the name Alli.

I agree. But it still relies on you watching your diet and exercise. Save your money and just diet and exercise.

Diet Pill...???? I don't care how many pill a person takes, Life cannot be medicated into perfection. Its time to put down the Big Mac, Eat more fruit/vegies. And get off the couch and enjoy some activity that burns fat and carbs....That's how the body works. Not by filling up some scamers bank account.

Obviously diet / exercise is better, esp. when you consider the side effects of this thing (ugh). But we always seek the easy way out.

And this is the first non-prescription diet pill that the FDA has approved.

Interesting that Enviga is hitting the news at this time too (that Coca Cola fat burning drink).

WTF - this is worthless! If a person were willing to change their diet and exercise more, THEY WOULDN'T NEED THIS PILL. Duh!!! Let's have the pill that will work WITHOUT changing diet and exercise habits. Now THAT would be a wonderful thing.

Having been on a diet of my own design, and losing approx 25 lbs. since May 2006, I know what it is that I want. I want a pill that will take off one year for each pound, allow, nay even enocourage, the consumption of gallons of ice cream, (premium high fat variety), KFC once a week, piles of mashed potatoes, followed by chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, fine wine, a beer or two, bread and rolls, and more chocolate. All the while improving my complexion, cleaning my arteries, adding an inch to my height, and having a mad for me Sean Connery show up at my door. All this while I lie back on my chaise with a good novel. Until such a pill is approved, I will struggle with veggies, fruit, and seltzer with lime.

The name needs a little tweaking: It should mimic the sound you make as your bowels explore like an inverted Vesuvius..AAIIIIIIIIIIII!

This is not the easy way out. Unfortuantely there are people who will beleive this pill is the answer to their problems. When will these people learn that there is no easy/fun way to lose weight. It takes a great deal of effort and too many people are not willing to do it. It has taken one years to put all that extra weight on and it will take a long time to get it off. Through better diets and exercise it will come off. You must however, stick with it and not get discouraged because you can't lose that extra 50 lbs by next week.

I took this pill before and I absolutely LOVE it. It is not a quick fix but rather a supplement for the meals that you choose to eat that have higher fat content like Mexican, pizza, chinese. I hope it will be cheaper than two bucks a pop like it was as a script.

Why is it that everything today seems to come with some sort of moral imperative? Anyone who is unaware that diet and exercise are the only way to lose significant weight can't read, listen to radio, or watch tv. Yet,we persist in repeating the obvious, and doing it in a judgmental and condescending way. Isn't there enough going on in our lives to occupy us? Are we so insecure that we have to scrutinize every aspect of others' lives to be sure that they are "correct"? If Tyra gained 10 lbs. so what! She spent years watching her weight, cut her, and other less prominent folk, some slack. It is only because society is so brutal to those who look different, or act differently, that scams like worthless diet pills, or phony facial treatments make so much money. To those upright folks who eagerly spew forth the health issues, forget it. We all know them too. In short, let the doctors give the advice and the rest of us decide whether or not to follow it.

While it does have some interesting side effects, I read up on it on the manufacturer's website, http://www.myalli.com and they say that those side effects are preventable if you stick with a reduced calorie low fat diet. Sure you would lose weight if you did just that, but with the help of this pill, it may get you over the hump so that you can see some results. Do I believe them? Who knows, I guess our federal government is watchin out for us, but only time will tell.
