Feb. 8, 2007, 10:17 p.m.You people who try to drive while talking on your cell phone better take a close look at your insurance policy. If you are in an accident and on the phone, the accident is your fault.

Feb. 9, 2007, 12:09 a.m.But who made the other driver the morality police? Was the cell phone slowing down the other person? Was the person driving erratically? Lots of motorist are lousy drivers and they are not on the cell phone.

Feb. 9, 2007, 1:23 a.m.I'm with Evelyna I've seen many lousy drivers without phones. They don't give signals, weave, whip across lanes in front to get off at a exit, etc. I agree cell phones can distract you but so can fooling with the radio, eating, talking to people in the car, reading a map/directions,etc. The list goes on. Police officers actually work computers and read them while driving as well as take calls. There needs to be some legislation to make cell phones safer in cars ie. mandatory speakerphones included with cell phones and mandatory use but cell phones shouldn't be banned. Many people use cell phones safely and nuts who ram people for talking on cell phones ought to be tossed in jail.

Feb. 9, 2007, 1:47 a.m.I've been almost T-boned by drivers talking on their cell phones so many times, it's hard not to sympathize with this guy. I was even cut off several times on one freeway trip by a guy who was, uh, entertaining himself while driving. Yep, spankin' old hank.
Of course, reason demands that we don't react this way to the driver who is talking, reading a map, applying mascara, shaving, or doing a dozen other things one has no business doing while driving. No matter how much we wish we could bump them off the roads permanantly.
But if you ever see me dialing 911 to report the guy who's entertaining himself in the next lane (and mine, and the next one), please forgive me, OK?

Feb. 9, 2007, 8:47 a.m.Let's face it. Most drivers today are idiots and couldn't drive correctly even with a hands free phone. They can't even drive just talking to a passenger without being a danger to themselves and others on the road. ALL communications devices should be illegal (with the exception of the car radio - and that is debatable with some of these uncoordinated nitwits on the road) in a motor vehicle while the driver is attempting to negotiate the roads and traffic. The exception would be a phone that can only diall 911. As for the guy who ran the cell phone junkie off the road - he should be jailed when found, made to pay for damages to the victims vehicle, and sent to counseling. He's as big an a--hole as the cell phone junkie.

Feb. 9, 2007, 9:28 a.m.Suprise! right wingers on this thread think everybody doing the objectionable activity should be killed or injured! who would have imagined that righties could be so mean spirited and amoral? wow. shocking. For the record, the story says that the vehicles were stopped at a light, so the talking probably was not interfering with the operation of the vehicle at the moment the almost certainly republican psychopath committed attempted murder. BTW, that is what that act represents, so endorse it all you like. It shows how craven and evil you all are.

Feb. 9, 2007, 10:41 a.m.No doubt he over reacted but on the otherhand its hard to not empathize with him.
All states should make driving while on the phone a fine-able offense, much like speeding.
Anyone see that AllState commercial that condones this type of behavior by elevating them to some sort of work-aholic type people?
God Awful commercial.

Feb. 9, 2007, 11:51 a.m.At least here in the UK there are plans to increase the fine for using a mobile to 2000 quid (about 4000 US dollars). So many accidents happen when people use their phones on the road. The worse thong I saw recently was a guy reading a Blackberry while driving. He may have even been writing a message for all I know. I wish I had my camera on me!

Feb. 9, 2007, 2:18 p.m.Now, I will comment on the story--just had to put that dirty hippy in his place. I think the guy was wrong for ramming the comtemptible piece of human garbage who refused to get off his cell phone, only because an innocent person in the oncoming lane may have been killed. Now, if he'd merely run him off the road, I'd applaud, because these days there is just too much indecency and inconsideration that we are guilted into tolerating by these stupid hippies who were never taught right from wrong so they would probably be the guy talking on his cell phone in the first place.

Feb. 9, 2007, 9:38 p.m.Notice the description of the psycho's truck that rammed the guy who just minding his own business (The pickup had Vietnam Veteran stickers and a baseball bat resting on the dashboard)? A baseball bat Gracie? If the guy he rammed finds him I bet he makes good use of it. What if someone had been killed, perhaps a child? Then the charge could be murder, all because he thinks he knows better or even has any right to control the actions of another person.Sick, sick,sick...
