Is the US a nation of laws, of conscience, or of a new manifest destiny? »

Posted by: populist 2 years, 8 months ago

The recent trial - now a mistrial - of Lt. Ehren Watada brings to the forefront the fact that laws and conscience often coexist in disharmony, that society must of necessity find a way not to subordinate individual conscience to those laws; especially when they do not make allowances for relevant change.

World imperialism for the Unitied States is a truism that pervades our world. I fail to grasp why Americans ignore this way of life that has continued through many administrations to our detriment.

All societies come and go and I feel that America is now on a downward spiral to the detriment of its citizenry. We cannot attain globalization as ourselves as the moral authority. Sadly Bush is attempting this path with future ramifications to be inherited by our future generations.

Bush and his cronies still have almost two years in office and I do not forsee any possible changes with the present Democrats now in office. Its all a charade, like acts within a play. The end is in sight but we must endure the inane parts.

Populist, I think your professor had the right idea, Apolitical. Life is short and their are many paths, why be involved if change is irreversible.

I doubt that very many americans view the world from the imperial viewpoint. It is sad that the neocons have taken this to be one of their hallmark points. They beleive in the greatness of america and will do anything to see to it that everyone else bows to that greatness.

I see the greatness of the american people and what they can do if they are encouaged to do so. I see a greatness of spirit that steps beyone GWB or any other politician. Sometimes we sleep away and don't pay attention, but rouse us and we become as lions who will not tolerate the things that have been going on for an indefinate period of time.

Things shift and right now they are shifting away from the Neocon vision of manifest destiny and towards that greatness of spirit tha we have. Unfortunatly, these shifts take time and it is time that works against us in the world at large.
