Feb. 15, 2007, 2:15 p.m.yet another government agency using its power to benefit those who have the most political influence.
isn't it time we start taking such power away from government? I don't trust the feds with the most important parts of MY life - health, welfare, wealth, war, peace, and more.

Feb. 15, 2007, 4:55 p.m.Control the seeds and you control the food chain. Monsanto, a chemical company, must be reeled in. They have long-term plans that are not in the best interests of consumers, farmers, or healthcare providers. Urgent, urgent warning!!

Feb. 16, 2007, 3:57 a.m.Frankencrops are the a great modern day evil. Unforntunately, it's back page news. It's not sensational enough to draw readers. Plus, how many people actually know anything about the biology that drives our food-chain?

Feb. 16, 2007, 5:57 a.m.Farmers have been splicing genes for centuries. They use to call it hybrids or mixing. The real telling thing about this decision is where its from. "U.S. District Court Judge Charles R. Breyer of the Northern District of California in San Francisco". This is nothing but left wing fear mongering over advances in farming that can feed millions of the world poor. The Europeans jumped on the genetic altered bandwagon as a means of protecting their own farm industry from US imports and to open new markets for their farmers. They have successfully scared countries in Africa for no reason and as a result some African countries that could benefit from free US grain and other products to feed the starving have banned them from being imported. The Europeans are now selling their products to those countries. The result not everyone gets the food they need and people die. This is truly sad.

Feb. 16, 2007, 10:05 a.m.Illegal Variety of Monsanto's
Canola in US Food Supply
The Center for Food Safety (CFS) filed a legal petition [yesterday] with
the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) seeking a criminal
investigation of two biotechnology companies, Monsanto and Aventis.
The petition is filed on behalf of CFS and the Genetically Engineered Food
Alert (GEFA) coalition. It describes newly discovered evidence that genetically
engineered canola seed not approved in the United States may have illegally
entered into the commercial U.S. seed supply, potentially contaminating
canola seed already sold to farmers.

Feb. 16, 2007, 10:20 a.m.We shouldn't be messing with Mother Nature. Especially when we don't know the long term consequences. And certainly all food that has been genetically engineered should be labelled as such.
And the audacity of Monsanto and other such companies to put out a seed, that when spread, they can then charge the neighboring farmer for using the plants that spring up as a result of the pollination by bees and birds. They don't want the dang plants in the first place and then Monsanto charges them! What hubris.
I'll have my tomatoes without fish genes. Thank you very much.

March 28, 2007, 2:54 a.m.positive is NOT what I wanted to vote for this comment above, oops, this nut can eat all the gm food he wants, I already refuse to buy any seedless foods, and believe it or not, I'm one of those "only cares about money and not about people or the environment" conservatives. I know it's not going to happen, but I wish there was a way to just make Monsanto vanish. And now to add to the stupidity we get to be concerned about cloned meat, milk, etc... personally, I don't want any of that stuff either.
