  Everything we do has impact, hopefully people will come to understand that before fish go the way of the buffalo.

  This article does not reference any species of fish. It does not even indicate what fish are being taken at the deeper levels...this was a waste of time..We need to make sure that what has always been a renewable resource remains one.

  there is no more cod fishery left on the Grand Banks - once thought to be inexhaustable.

  I became a vegetarian to avoid harming any sentient thing, after all, meat is in no way essential to sustain human life. More people should try it simply because it's good for other living things. Then, at least you know you're not part of this crap.

  I don't understand what is right or wrong anymore its honestly scarey...I don't eat alot of meat/fish anyway and was a total Vegan for a year,and all my arthritis went away!

  I believe that the hormones and antibiotics that are added to our meat supply are responsible for many human problems- cancers and the like. Though I am not a vegan, I do not like to overdo meat, and do like brown rices and different beans.

  Americans are killing themselves with their lack of respect they have for this planet, as well as outer space, where there is so much junk floating around there, it just amazes me. We are killing everything around us, and eventually killing ourselves in the process.

  I have discussed moving out to the country with my husband, where we can raise our own farm animals and grow our own gardens, buy organic or at the least unbleached flour, and just live off the land. Hasn't happened yet.

  A logistical plan to spread the abundance you celebrate would lighten up the glum attitudes around here.

  Do you remember when the Cambodians were starving, and the tons of food were left to rot on the docks, because the leaders were too selfish to distribute the needed supplies?

  God may endow many gifts but we aren't living up to our end of the deal. Humans are the most inhumane creatures on the planet- That is the realist view point.

  Being a conservative and a skeptic of nearly everything in blogs, I researched some of this. Guess what, the writer is right on the money and the conclusions are also. The Orange Roughy is a very slow breeder, but tasty. At the rate this species is being caught, their population, as a viable species, will crash. New Zealand looks to be hell bent on catching all of theirs. If the Asian's appetite for fish cannot be shifted from salt water species to farm grown freshwater species like catfish, world fish populations will eventually crash. BlueFin Tuna fetch huge prices with the record being over $300,000 for one fish in Japan. At these prices, the bluefin tuna is in big trouble. No matter what your political positions may be, an Ocean without fish would

  be a very bad omen for humans. Just think of Africa with populations far beyond the capacity of the land to support. Would you like to live there? Fish can only feed so many and we are past that point now. Pay attention.
