The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just approved the over-the-counter (OTC) purchase of an orlistat pill.OTC Alli is taken three times daily, one with each major meal. The drug works by blocking the action of an intestinal enzyme required for the breakdown of the major dietary fats (triglycerides).

Long-term use of this drug could have potentially serious negative side effects if the fat soluble vitamins are blocked from absorbtion. WOuld you exchange osteoporosis, loss of vision, coronary complications for losing 7 lbs with no effort? Exercise and right diet still rule in the ring of weight loss prescriptions.

Americans are in love with the "quick fix" especially when it comes to diet. If you have high cholesteral you take a pill and then think that its alright to feast on fast food. With this drug I see no difference, people will take the pill and then think they can continue with their bad dietary habits and lack of exercise.
