Idiots. Sanitized Warfare. Banning mines, napalm, cluster bombs - - -. If we make warfare real nice we can have it forever. To have war is stupid. To have rules for war that only you obey is the height of stupidity. What makes one kind of killing bad, another good? If you are going to make war, use every method available to kill your opponent. Perhaps then, any would be opponent would choose another option.

"Mr Johansen said Norway hoped the cluster bomb pact would enjoy the same kind of success as the Ottawa convention that banned anti-personnel landmines, which has been ratified by 153 states."

As if that had any effect. There are still mines and IED's in Iraq. These pipsqueak little countries have no power, so they run around trying to get the bullies on the street to stop being bullies by holding meetings.

these cluster bombs are indiscriminate killers that can lay in wait for years before killing/maiming innocents.

as usual the US corporations profit from the sale of mayhem and the US govt protects their financial interests.

The real problem with clusters and land mines is that the original combatants never go in and clean up the mess.If these things were being used in the industrial countries you can bet there would be better technology to neutralize them.

I'm so glad we have all these stories that keep appearing to tell us how bad and evil the U.S. is. Just once, why can't the U.S do something "nice" and blow people to pieces with regular artillery shells like the good old days, or cremate live soldiers with flamethrowers like they did in WW2?

P.S. World War One was about 90 years ago now. Artillery was the main killer, been responsible for more deaths than any other weapon, with machine guns and rifles coming in next. To this day, Belgium farmers alone unearth about 400 TONS of unexploded artillery shells every year (some containing mustard gas.) That's not counting all the one that neighbouring France finds. 90 years later.

How about this? How about we stop war? You think someone's done you wrong, you get to hold a public duel. Done and over with. And no one else gets hurt in the "collateral damage."

Violence begets violence. Duels would lead to revenge killings. There is no end to violence through the continuation of violence.

the US, Russia and China were absent,

so, was it just a gathering of third world terror states???

maybe a couple liberal apologetic anti-war friends???
