Tattooing is a great way to express your individuality because not many people have tattoos.

I used to wear a button that featured two Asian characters, one day these two Chinese girls were laughing and pointing at me, it turned out I had been wearing the button upside down for almost a full year! At least THAT wasn't a tattoo. (And I liked the way it looked upside down better).

so what's so "unique" about that????

and you've marked yourself for life,

tattoos used to be the mark of the ex-con here in the US.

now, even nice girls are getting "tramp patchs"

Tramp stamps are certainly the rage.

There's nothing unique about getting tattooed with the character for "unique."

Within a certain age bracket, tattoos are the norm. Nothing unique about being a lemming (yes. I know they don't really jump off cliffs in packs.).

Amnesia victims, I'm guessing they had their names tattooed so they wouldn't forget them again. lol

The story is satirical, meaning FALSE. There is no such organization as "The American Association of Tattoo Artists" so all you proud individualists out there get a grip...and go get that nautical star like the rest of us.

Our radio station here always plays a little clip that says, "Remember, you're unique, just like everyone else"

This story just reminded me of that. :P

What sometimes starts out to be a very small jesture to show your individualism, turns its evil head and becomes a huge mistake on ones arms, necks, bellies and backs.

I may be just speaking on my own experiance, but my son started out with a small 4 leaf clover on his back shoulder and yep, you got it...Now he has, as he calls it a half shirt. His back is a nice picture of a dragon and thank God I have forgotten what else..

I guess that was My payback for getting a small butterfly on my back shoulder when he was just a year old. That was 30 years ago.. I'm getting old !! Hmmm, I mean experianced!

As his mother, I wish he would have left it with the single clover...

My husband has several tattoos and I've always wanted one but haven't found one I am willing to live with for the rest of my life.... But on the subject of chinese characters for tattoos. I have a funny example of why you need to be careful.... I have a friend who is from china and we go to the gym together. One day we were talking to this young guy and she noticed he ad a chinese character tattoo, she was surprised to see it and asked him what it meant. He said "unique" but according to my friend it actually meant "expensive" or "high maintenance". She said "I hope he doesn't meet any chinese girls and try to impress them with it. They will run the other way!"

Is there a chinese character that means 'dumba$$'? Probably not. Having yourself tattooed should be a form of self-expression. How stupid are you when your tat is in another language.

If you really want to feel uniquely stupid, go find an old jewish guy and ask him to show you his tattoo.

                                                    True story,

A "Gang Banger" over here had a tattoo. It ran from the bottom of his ear to the top of his shoulder. He wrote what he wanted on a piece of paper and the tattoo artist copied it verbatim in "Old English" style writing. Well he was very proud to have a tattoo saying "Angel" on his neck except for the fact he wrote on the paper "Angle" yep, neither one of the dunces caught that.
