Carter Rips Cheney's 'Abysmal' Iraq Record »

Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 8 months ago

In the 26 years since he left the White House, former President Jimmy Carter has traveled the world as both peacemaker and provocateur. Carter and "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos covered that ground, plus the politics of Iraq and 2008, when they met at the Carter Center in Atlanta (click here to link to the organization's Web sit

What can I say, I love President Carter. His work in Africa to his book about Palestine. I think what he says about Iraq sounds like a good plan. Thanks Tecnology Expert for the article. For those that don't want to read the article on the left side of the page is a link to watch the video.

In a tough time, he was a President's President. He may have not done everything right, but what he did do; Carter did it better than most. You have got to admire that "Peanut Man" from Plains, Georgia.

"Well, if you go back and see what Vice President Cheney has said for the last three or four years concerning Iraq, his batting average is abysmally low. He hasn't been right on hardly anything"

            Carter's assesment is undeniably accurate.

It is both tragic and amazing that, after engineering one of the greatest foreign policy disasters in several generations, Dick Cheney remains in a position to wield more influence on US policy than probably anyone else in the country. His repeated and abject failures in his role as Vice President have recurred with such regularity that, were it not for the human costs involved, his record of errancy would be almost comical.

carter was a weak incompetent pres and has since become the worlds leading anti-semite..his remarks on isreal of late are just astounding--i remember the misery index..18% rates..inflation..panama canal given to the chinese..and sitting on his hands while these islamo-fascists seized our embassy--thats when these people decided america was a paper tiger--jimbo was the root of 9-11 and a lot of the unrest in palestine--he propped up the butcher arafat as a great statesman--carters record is the worst of the worst and he continues be an international disgrace

I always liked Carter. Even when he seemed somehow ineffectual, I thought he was sincere. Something that cannot be said for the hooligans in office now. And he certainly had it nailed about the environment and energy dependency. Too bad he wasn't listened to at the time.

Carters lack of spinal fortitude, foreshadowed todays era of terror. His "talk now, act never" politics had the country in a tailspin.

It is now a great irony that this crony has resurfaced to criticize the mess he allowed to start. His allowing of a group of crimminal Islamic cultists to seize a country fostered the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the region and the current Use of proxy muslim murder cults by the Mullah gangsters. Years later people are still dealing with this buffoon's ineffectual policy and non-existant leadership and he has the gall to show his sorry face much less open his big yap like he has the answers today for yesterdays ******-ups.

I greatly admire President Carter. He's right on target about Iraq.

He inherited a country with enormous debt that Nixon/Ford had run up. Because of the federal government's insatiable appetite for borrowing, interest rates skyrocketed.

Before leaving office, Nixon whispered in the Arab leaders' ears that if they slowed the flow of oil, the price per barrel would soar, and they could buy from us the weapons systems and fighter aircraft that Congress refused to let him give them. That produced the Arab oil embargo and half mile long lines at the few gas stations that had gas to sell.

Carter didn't install the Shah of Iran and prop him up with enough military might that he could brutalize his people. He wasn't responsible for the tremendous hatred the Iranian people had toward America. When that hate boiled over into the embassy crisis, he had the good sense not to invade, as that would have insured the murder of all the hostages. They did come home alive.

Carter knows the definition of "abysmal"...it is his middle name. This is a classic example of the pot calling the kettle black considering his "abysmal" handling of the Iran hostage crisis. I am not surprised he supports Al Gore...they are two peas in a pod...both ineffective failures.

because cheney's record surrounding iraq is indefensible the republicons took to attacking carter.

cheney was wrong about everything. recognize it. admit it. learn from it.

Instead of attacking a man who has done great works for the disenfranchised, why not thank him for his service to our world. He has done a lot of good since his presidency and he did a lot of good during his presidency. Sure he made mistakes, but I don't think he is to blame for 9/11. He got Sedat and Begin to sit in the same room which no one else could do. And got them to sign a peace accord.

Instead of tearing him down, why not use his example to help others and make us a great nation again? That energy may be better used stopping diseases, ending hunger, or trampling tyrrany.

Jimmy Carter had his problems as president (don't they all) but he was an extremely intelligent man. Look it up. It's true. Remember one thing also: Reagan is given credit for winning the Cold War but as a matter of fact he mostly merely continued policies which Carter had begun. The Cold War was not won on the battlefield but in the board room, the farms, the factories of the USA. We spent them into submission. If you don't believe me (and I think Reagan was a good president) just read Robert Gates's book "From the Shadows". He served 5 presidents, including Carter and Reagan, spent time as the DCI for 1 or 2 of them. He was in a position to know and he says it was Carter's policies, continued by Reagan, which broke the Soviet Union. They simply couldn't match our spending, not in terms of percentage of GDP. Revile Carter all you want but if you liked what Reagan did to the USSR, thank Carter.

Jimmy Carter should never be permitted to speak on anything other than building houses for the poor. His legacy is the WORST President in U.S. history. He was more of an enemy of the military and the people of this country than even Bill Clinton.
