Analysis of Right Wing Smear Attack on Al Gore »

Posted by: Wil 2 years, 9 months ago

The right-wing noise machine really is a remarkable thing to behold. Al Gore wins an Oscar, gets some well-deserved recognition for his efforts, and within hours the Republican noise machine is already in full smear mode, trying to undercut Gore's message by attacking him personally.

    Here is my favorite part:

"This is a textbook example of the mindless swarming behavior that is so typical among right-wing partisan flacks. First, everyone on the right--from top to bottom--simply assumed that the content of this press release, which was put out by an organization none of them had ever heard of before, was factually accurate. Actually, that probably gives them too much credit. It's not that they assumed it was accurate, it's that they didn't care. The press release was chalked full of truthiness, and that was good enough."

    That about sums it up

It's just exactly what I've come to expect. The most annoying part is when the rumor such as this is debunked, and the fools that have been screaming at the top pf their lungs about this very issue continue to repeat it as though it is fact. They are a group who cannot make a decision until they hear what Rush, Hannity, or Orielly says. I know it's pathetic, but they are that simple!

This is a textbook example of the liberal mindset coming to the aid of their party. Especially when the party is represented by the gasbags of the liberal left. There are very few people that understood the garbage presented by Al, the Internet, Gore. Without even mentioning the creative use of statistics and the Powerpoint graphics, the data was flawed, intended to present the case without accuracy. and then what, the Liberal left gives him a political endorsement and they re-label it as a moral issue...what a shame that the Oscars have degenerated to smut, endorsement of the gay lifestyle and honoring the frauds.

Maybe the attacks are not really being originated by the right, just being pick up by the right. Note, Gore still has to get through the DNC nominating process to get to the general election. Now why attack now, why not wait an pool you resources to go after the nominee. Now on the other side, if you are competing for the party nomination would you attack the others going for the nomination before or after the nomination processs. So you might want to look within the DNC for the basis of any attack on Gore, Obama, or any of the rest. Maybe the 'Hillary Hit Squad' at work.

Sorry if the right is actually saying something about Al Gore's movie based on junk science. The ice age was coming once too, remember that?

Do some of your own homework. The local cinema has never been anything but a form of escape from reality. That describes "An Inconvenient Truth".

This is spot on. although I can't stand hillary clinton, I agree with her about at least one thing, that there is indeed a vast right wing conspiracy.

It's as if, republicons receive their marching orders every morning, which they basically do from their dominance of the media - oreilly, rush, malkin, beck, scarborough, miller, gordon, fakaria, hannity, sustern, am radio, fox news, et al.

This can be demonstrated by the sudden surge in usage of the pejoratives "moonbat" and "leftist loonie." It's as if these two words were invented in the past year by smearmongers and than injected into the popular parlance by their all too willing partisan parrots. Kind of like how gravitas was fortified just to enable W to put on stilts so he could be thought of as being worthy for the office, or islamo fascist, flip-flopper, sore-loserman, surge.

Control the words and you control the people. It truly is orwellian.

                  Locky12,

Can you find a reference for the "Ice Age" beyond Newsweek? Any peer-reviewed Journal? I have the scientific agencies' responses to the article in Newsweek if you would like to read them. Your post is another great example of the right's constant repetition of a half-truth to denounce something they don't understand and/or like.

Maybe people will also wake up and focus on the real issues instead of screaming at the many smoke screens and distractions purveyed by both sides of the aisle.

Al Gore a hypocrite? Sure.. Maybe not.. Who cares -- reduce your carbon footprint.

                    WAKE UP!

This post is a testament to that which it purports to have a disdain for. It's a bunch of crap. Partisan politics is partisan politics, and it's dominating the the American political scene. For every Republican smear of a Democrat there is an equal and opposite smear of a Republican by a Democrat. No one's hands on either side of the fence are free of blood. Maybe someday all you radical libs and arch conservatives will be gone. Maybe someday moderates will get together and actually get something done in a spirit of compromise, cooperation and mutual respect. Probably not, but one can always hope.

Of course the right wing smear machine is nothing compared to the loonies at the left wing smear machine. Psychos like Michael Moore, Harry Belafonte, Cynthia Sheeney not to mention those two loon bloggers he had to fire. All of which continue to try to shout down conservatives w/their blatant arrogance. The left wing smear machine needs to be locked up in the loony bin because they frighten me sometimes. Especially all those loony left conspiracy theorists. I think insanity will eventually sweep all lefties in this country. U loons should try something other than hate.

For those who do not listen to Rush Limbaugh, I would like to point out that Rush actually came to the defense of Gore during his discussion of the topic. Rush's point is that energy is a commodity available for purchase like any other and a person's choice doesn't necessarily make them moral or immoral. It was Gore himself who declared that carbon emissions was a moral issue. I will now sit back and brace myself for the onslaught .....

Conservatives, the adults are coming to take back the country. I'm glad you folks had fun, but it's OVER.

This is one of those "practice what you preach" arguments.

When Bush went to war many liberals shouted, "GWB, why are your daughters not in the Army?" This was seen as good speech. GWB was called a hypocrit for not sending his own kids to war.

Now we have Al Gore, who is calling for a war against climate change. The problem is that Al Gore is not lowering his own carbon footprint (just as GWB did not send his daughters to Iraq). He is telling the rest of us to lower our carbon footprint while he lets his grow larger 'cause he can afford to pay for 'off-sets'... What if all of us followed Gore's example? If all of us did as Gore is doing we would increase our carbon footprint and just pay a bill.

This is not an attack on Al Gore, this is an attack on his "do as I say not as I do" policy.

"Paramount Classics, Participant Productions, and NativeEnergy have joined forces to offset 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions from air and ground transportation and hotels for production and promotional activities associated with the documentary."

Al Gore has also mentioned in numerous interviews that he has made his life carbon-neutral, and now he's announcing that "100 percent of the profits from the book and the movie [will go] to a new bipartisan educational campaign to further spread the message about global warming."
